‘Sean Taylor: A Football Life’ Premieres Friday, September 26 at 9:00 PM ET
“God made certain people to play football. He was one of them.” – Joe Gibbs
“His first game in the NFL, he was the best player on the field.” – Chris Cooley
After 24 years of life, three-and-a-half NFL seasons and three collegiate seasons, Sean Taylor still lacks a clear image. Throughout his life, the late safety granted few interviews and did not allow many outside of his inner circle to see his true self. As a result, there were several misconceptions that many people held about the young man.
On Friday, September 26 at 9:00 PM ET, NFL Network’s A Football Life profiles the life and legacy of the late Sean Taylor through the words, stories and memories of people who knew him best. The one-hour, NFL Films-produced Sean Taylor: A Football Life features interviews with family members such as his father Pete Taylor, siblings Monika Martin, Sasha Johnson and Jamal Johnson, and cousin David Walsh; former teammates such as Clinton Portis, Santana Moss and Ryan Clark; and former coaches Joe Gibbs and Gregg Williams.
Additionally, Sean Taylor: A Football Life features an interview with Taylor’s fiancée, Jackie Garcia-Haley – the first interview she has conducted regarding her late fiancée.

Provided below are some select quotes from Sean Taylor: A Football Life:
– “He was never one of those guys to be like, ‘What you’re reporting about me or the stories you hear are wrong – here’s what really happened.’ And so from the outside world, when you hear those things you perceive them as the truth. The misconception people have is that OK, we hear these things about him living recklessly off the field and we believe them because we watch him play football. And when he plays football, he’s reckless. And so people thought that’s who he was but it wasn’t.” – Ryan Clark
– “God made certain people to play football. He was one of them.” – Joe Gibbs
– “His first game in the NFL, he was the best player on the field.” – Chris Cooley
– “When I first saw him, I was like, ‘Wow, a beast’…He knew how to play the game.” – Ed Reed
– “He was actually living his dream. He slept his entire life on an NFL pillow until the day he got drafted.” – Jackie Garcia-Haley
– “That whole first year I think was pretty traumatic really and I was kind of looking at it as a coach going we have a great player but this guy, he’s going to be hard to handle.” – Joe Gibbs
– “Every game he would do something to let you know that he wasn’t from this planet and all of us were.” – Ryan Clark
– “It changed. That thing clicked…We all started to see a little bit calmer Sean outside the white lines.” – Gregg Williams on Sean Taylor following the birth of his daughter
– “I couldn’t sleep. I was hoping that next call would be, ‘He’s alright.’ And the next call was the worst call I’ve probably ever had in my life today.” – Santana Moss on the night Sean Taylor was shot
– “There’s not a single day that goes by that you can’t come up with a memory of Sean that puts you in a better mood.” – Clinton Portis
– “He was like, ‘Auntie, I’m going to play football and I’m going to make money.’ He really wanted everyone to be together. He wanted his mom and his sisters and brothers to be back together. I think that was his focus that drove him.” – Carlene Ford on Sean Taylor as a child
