As Lifetime Longhorn Jordan Spieth goes for his third major golf championship of the year, Longhorn Network will air Spieth’s opening round of The Open at Scotland’s St Andrews links course on Thursday. The “Featured Players” feed will also be available on ESPN3 and WatchESPN, with Trey Wingo and Allen Bestwick sharing the host role and analysis from Tom Weiskopf and Carl Paulson.
First round coverage begins Thursday morning at 3:30 a.m. CT. Spieth tees off shortly afterwards, at 3:33 a.m. CT alongside Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsyuama. The Texas born and raised golfer has four tournament victories this year and is the favorite to win The 144th Open after winning the first two majors of 2015.
While at The University of Texas, Spieth lead the Longhorns to a 2012 NCAA Golf National Championship.
This is the first time LHN has carried The Open Championship coverage, and the sixth time LHN has provided an alternate telecast of a live ESPN event featuring UT. Past companion programs included a split-screen coaching view of the 2012 and 2013 Valero Alamo Bowl, an alternate camera feed with Next Level stats for the 2012 Texas at Ole Miss game and Longhorn Legends Living Room during the 2014 Advocare Texas Bowl.
