Just in time for the Masters Tournament, award-winning golf writer Jason Sobel is returning to ESPN and will be part of ESPN.com’s coverage team when golf’s first major tees off next week at Augusta National Golf Club.
As senior golf writer for ESPN Digital & Print Media, Sobel will contribute news, reaction and commentary year-round, contribute to ESPN The Magazine and lead live interactive coverage around major golf events. In addition, he will contribute reports and analysis to SportsCenter and other ESPN news platforms from selected events and as breaking news warrants.
After stints at two daily newspapers, Sobel joined ESPN’s studio production department in 1997, where he won four Sports Emmy Awards. He became ESPN.com’s golf editor in 2004, and then a columnist/blogger in 2008, before leaving ESPN in 2011 to become a senior writer for GolfChannel.com.
During his career, Sobel has received eight awards from the Golf Writers Association of America, including two first-place writing awards. He grew up in Islip, N.Y., and attended Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.
Sobel joins the ESPN.com golf team that includes senior writer Bob Harig and senior analyst Michael Collins. Harig, Collins and Sobel will be joined at the Masters by ESPN.com national columnist Gene Wojciechowski and ESPN.com senior writer Ian O’Connor.
