HILL, SHANKS, GREENBERG, WHITE & FERTITTA PREVIEW COVERAGE OF UFC ON FOX: LIVE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT: VELASQUEZ VS. DOS SANTOS
FOX Sports Media Group Chairman David Hill, FOX Sports Co-President Eric Shanks & FUELTV General Manager George Greenberg joined forces with UFC President Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta earlier today to preview coverage of the first ever UFC heavyweight title bout on network television between defending champion Cain Velasquez and No. 1 contender Junior dos Santos. This historic bout airs LIVE exclusively on FOX Saturday, November, 12 (9:00 PM ET). FUELTV airs the LIVE weigh-in on Friday, November 11 (7:00 PM ET) and a two-hour special prefight show Saturday, November 12 (7:00 PM ET) featuring analysis from a champions’ roundtable and exclusive interviews from the red carpet arrivals of celebrities and athletes attending the historic fight.
HILL ON IMPACT UFC HAS HAD ON THIS GENERATION – During today’s UFC on FOX preview press call, FOX Sports Media Group Chairman David Hill opined what he sees for the future of ultimate fighting in American mainstream sports. “What boxing was to my generation is what the UFC is to my son’s. I firmly believe that in the period of this contract (seven years) that the dreams that Dana White, Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta had for this sport are going to be fully realized,” said Hill. “In seven years, I believe boxing is going to be even more of a niche than it is and UFC will become mainstream.”
WHITE ON BRINGING THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BOUT TO FREE TELEVISION – “When I was growing up, I used to watch ABC for the big fights and then on USA network when I was a little older. After the pay-per-view model, they never put big fights on free TV. We’re not only bringing big fights back to television, we’re bringing the heavyweight championship of the world,” said White. “It’s about the heavyweight championship of the world just like Ali vs. Frazier and all the big fights from back in the glory days of boxing. We went with Cain vs. JDS because it’s going to be very exciting.”
WHITE ON HOW THE UFC WILL INTRODUCE ITS SPORT TO A BROADCAST NETWORK AUDIENCE – “Now that it’s going to be on FOX and we know we’re speaking to a wider, broader audience that may not know much about mixed martial arts and has probably never seen the UFC before it’s going to be different than a typical UFC event,” said White. “There’s going to be more storytelling and explaining on who we are, what this is and what these athletes are about.”
GEORGE GREENBERG ON UFC PROGRAMMING ON FUELTV – “About 25 percent of our programming time will be devoted to the UFC. We’re going to have north of 2,000 hours. We’ll have a lot of the key shoulder programming and more live TV from the UFC than any other network. As far as our presentation, we’re not going to assume anything. We’re going to talk to junkies, we’re going to talk to new people, we’re going to talk to the casual fan. At the end of the day, we’re going to make sure that the experience, whether they’ve seen it before or they haven’t, is an introduction to a new sport that is absolutely in the last 10 years off the map.”
ERIC SHANKS ON FUELTV’S UFC COMING OUT PARTY – “It’s pretty obvious that we need to introduce the world to the UFC on FUEL. We need to let people know that FUEL is going to be one of the FOX homes for the UFC. It’s a coming out party for the UFC on FOX and it’s a coming out party for FUEL doing the UFC as well. It’s a way to raise awareness for FUEL.”

FALCONS QB MATT RYAN WEIGHS IN ON JULIO JONES’ BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE ON THE AFTER PARTY WITH JAY GLAZER – The week’s After Party with NFL on FOX Insider Jay Glazer features appearances by Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, Jets linebacker Bart Scott and Cowboys rookie running back DeMarco Murray.
