BELOW ARE SELECT HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS WEEK’S EDITION
On Denver vs. Colts Reversed Fumble Call Controversy…
Mike Carey – “There’s no difference between the Dez Bryant play [fumble –last Sunday against the Cowboys] and the Josh Cribbs play … There was not enough there for possession, which means control, two feet down and if you are going to the ground, maintain control of the ball when you hit the ground … [The ruling] doesn’t agree with the rulebook. The rulebook is clear, he did not have control …The League made a mistake.”
On Broncos General Manager John Elway…
Boomer Esiason – “He put a lot of money into this team. He wants a Super Bowl for Pat Bowlen, for everybody out there in Denver. And he feels that he needs a new coach to get it done. Believe me, John Elway is going to make the decision to get it done.”
On Peyton Manning’s Performance Last Sunday…
Brandon Marshall – “I think we are missing a big point here. And the big point is that in December, Peyton looked exhausted. A lot of people are afraid to go out there and say that because it is Peyton Manning and we have to respect what he’s done. But Peyton looked exhausted physically … Peyton isn’t invincible. He’s human just like all of us. We chose to play this game, and there’s good and there’s bad. And for Peyton, he’s been on the good for a long time. Everyone sees he’s slowing down a little bit.”
On Peyton Manning Retiring…
Phil Simms – “I think he’s going to come back [next season]… You know who is going to determine if he’s coming back or not? It’s going to be Peyton Manning. I think it’s truly just his call. They [Broncos] are going to want him back. Why? … They built this for him … Maybe they want to bring a different supporting cast …They are not going to teach him anything different, whoever comes in, they are going to do what they’ve been doing … He’s such a star. You have to give it one more chance.
On The New England Patriots…
Boomer Esiason– “What do the Patriots do? They adapt. They can do anything…To me, this guy, Tom Brady, is the coolest guy in football. He’s the guy that gets it done. I believe that they’ll win the football game. I believe they’ll get to the Super Bowl and I think they are going to give Seattle all they can handle.”
On the Colts’ Coaching Staff…
Phil Simms – “These coaches take good players and make them stars. And they give you championships … Pep Hamilton on offense, Greg Manusky on defense. They are aggressive. Not afraid of the moment. In other words, not afraid to take chances.”
On the Seattle Seahawks…
Brandon Marshall – “I think the reason they are so successful, and they can potentially be back-to-back champs, is because of their chemistry. They absolutely love each other.”
