Deutsche Bank Championship – Third Round
Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015
TPC Boston, Norton, Mass.
Henrik Stenson (13-under, 1st) speaking with Golf Channel on NBC’s Steve Sands following his round
Henrik Stenson – “It’s always good to be back at a course where you’ve performed well and played well. I kind of like this golf course off the tee and I’m playing well here. So I’m just trying to keep it going.”
Rickie Fowler (12-under, 2nd) speaking with Sands following his round
Fowler – “I definitely didn’t want to make bogey at the last, especially having 5-iron in. So it felt good to roll that [par putt] in. To get into the final group is going to be fun. Henrik and I are going to have a good time tomorrow. Hopefully we can go head-to-head and beat those guys out front and see who plays the better golf tomorrow.”
On Stenson
Miller – “He is the best ball striker in the game… We always talk about the sound, but I’m talking about the results.”
Roger Maltbie – “He’s just one of those players that’s fun to watch just to hear – if nothing else – the sound of impact when he hits it.”
Peter Jacobsen – “When he’s on, whether it’s a driver or an iron or a 3-wood, it’s perfect.”
On Fowler’s putting
Miller – “That’s a pretty putting stroke. Big backstroke like Ben Crenshaw, and just a cruise control follow through.”
On Fowler’s driving
Miller – “He’s playing some serious army golf. Left, right, left.”
On the par-5 18th hole
Notah Begay – “[It’s] kind of similar to what you see on the par-4 4th hole. A little bit of everything, some eagles and some birdies and double [bogeys]. Just a good indication of a hole that presents some opportunity, but if you don’t pull it off it’s going to bite you.”
On Jason Day’s streak of 22 consecutive rounds of par or better coming to an end
Gary Koch – “You had to figure at some point he was probably going to hit the wall. And I can’t help but think making [double bogey] six on the little short par-4 4th early in the day may have been the wall.”
On Charlie Hoffman, after beginning the day as the overnight night leader at 12-under
Miller – “He is really spraying it all over the golf course. It must be nerves… I don’t know if it’s the money, or the size of the Championship, but he’s just not in his comfort zone.”
