FOX Sports Media Group Tapped Best in Sports Media
New York, NY – A year of unprecedented rights acquisitions, the evolution of FOX Sports Media Group’s multi-platform assets and a diverse lineup featuring the top events in sports led to a big night for FOX Sports at the Sports Business Journal’s fifth annual Sports Business Awards. FOX Sports Media Group (FSMG) Chairman and CEO David Hill was on hand Wednesday night to accept the awards for Best in Sports Media and Best in Sports Television. Nominations in a variety of categories were submitted earlier this year and cover accomplishments achieved from March 1, 2011 to Feb. 29, 2012.
“Winning these awards is a great honor, especially considering the fantastic work and innovation of our industry colleagues,” said Hill. “They are a testament to the tremendous effort coming from all of the linear and digital entities in the FOX Sports Media Group and their dedicated staffs.”
With a stable of jewel sports events and properties, FOX Sports was crowned America’s No. 1 sports network for the 15th consecutive year. The diverse list of major events includes NFL (NFC Championship, NFC Divisional and Wild Card Playoffs and the dominant regular season NFC package), MLB (World Series, ALCS, All-Star Game and MLB Game of the Week), NASCAR (Daytona 500 and the first half of NASCAR’s regular season), UEFA Champions League Final, college football (Cotton Bowl, Pac-12 Football Championship Game and Big Ten Football Championship Game) and UFC (Heavyweight Championship).
The evolution of FSMG’s multi-platform assets was on display this past year. This was evidenced by the combination of UFC events, weigh-ins, prelims and post-fight shows on FOX, FX, FUEL TV, FOX Deportes, FOX Sports Radio and FOXSports.com. In soccer, semifinal UEFA Champions League action appeared on FOX Soccer and FX, with FOX covering the finals live from Wembly Stadium in London. Barclays Premier League soccer also aired live on FOX Soccer with an encore airing on FOX. FOX Sports added renowned play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson, who along with Charles Davis make up the lead college football broadcast team. They were seen throughout the season on FX, with the games being produced by FOX Sports.
FSMG continues to add to its big event lineup, securing an extraordinary list of media rights recently including the Men’s & Women’s FIFA World Cup from 2015-2022; NFL 2014-22; UFC from 2012-18; Pac-12 from 2012-23; Big 12 from 2012-24; Conference USA; Big Ten Football Championship Games (2011-16); and renewed rights for UEFA Champions League through 2015.
