Using the very latest technology, the zero emission SRT_01E aims to stretch the boundaries of what is currently achievable in electric motor sports, while ensuring a balance between cost-effectiveness and sustainability, in addition to coping with the demands of racing entirely on street circuits. Two U.S.-based teams are among the 10 competing – Andretti Autosport, with drivers Franck Montagny and Charles Pic; and Dragon Racing, with drivers Oriol Servia and Jérôme d’Ambrosio. Air Gate pylons are set up inside and around the 1.5-mile quad-oval track. Going into this first race in the USA this year, Austria’s Hannes Arch is holding onto a narrow lead over Paul Bonhomme and Nigel Lamb after their one-two British sweep at the last stop in Ascot, England. Also, Americans Kirby Chambliss and Michael Goulian are keen for a little homecoming advantage as they try to rise in the standings. “This is a tight course at the Texas Motor Speedway and will be the most challenging track of the year so far,” says FOX Sports 1 analyst Mike Mangold. “Arch needs all the skill in his arsenal to maintain his slim lead over rival Bonhomme of Great Britain and the other chargers in the 12-man field.”
