ESPN Radio will host its owned and operated stations from New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas as well as 12 affiliates in a special day-long event May 23. Those 16 stations as well as network shows will broadcast throughout the day from the second annual “Audio Avenue” to be held outdoors on the quad of ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Conn.
Joining the festivities will be the network broadcasts and simulcasts of: Mike & Mike in the Morning (6-10 a.m. ET/ESPN2); The Herd with Colin Cowherd (10 a.m.-1 p.m./ESPNEWS); and The Scott Van Pelt Show (1-4 p.m./ESPNEWS until 3 p.m.). Audio Ave. will also feature a live broadcast of Jorge Ramos y Su Banda (4-7 p.m.), and local ESPN Deportes Radio programming from Dallas, Phoenix and the Dominican Republic. Included will be two shows from the all new ESPN New York 98.7 FM, Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco and The Michael Kay Show.
“Audio Avenue brings the concept of ‘ESPN Everywhere’ to life,” said Mo Davenport, Senior Vice President, ESPN Audio. “Each of these shows and markets represent what our listeners love, the opportunity to hear from experts locally, nationally and globally.”
Along with the hosts and producers broadcasting from “Audio Avenue,” participants will include network and affiliate management, account executives, program directors, clients, ESPN employees and those involved with ESPN Audio’s promotions, marketing and sales. ESPN executives participating will include: Traug Keller, Sr. VP Production, Business Divisions; Davenport; Tim McCarthy, Sr. VP, ESPN Radio Play by Play & Talent Planning; James Pastor, Sr. Vice President, ESPN Local; and Dave Roberts, ESPN Radio New York Vice President and General Manager.
“Our local markets continue to be a growth engine, with our stations and ESPN Local web sites serving the needs of our fans,” said Pastor. “With ESPN New York now the first full-time sports information station on the FM band and ESPN Deportes Radio launching this September, we continue to look at how we deliver the strongest programming with both local, national and bicultural excellence.”
The May 23 events will include two “Block Party Breakout” luncheons focusing on the production of Mike & Mike in the Morning, and listener demographic research.
