The first-of-its-kind program, featuring Rafael Bello, Giara (Yara) Nova and Bernardo Mendez, airs Saturdays and Sundays
Starting November 21, ESPN NY 1050AM Radio launches the Network’s first bilingual show El Locker Room, a pioneer program offering New York City residents two weekly doses of entertainment and sports, airing Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
A pioneering program offering its audience two doses a week of entertainment and sports, El Locker Room satisfies lovers of both genres’ wants and needs, while embracing the two most prominent languages in the city. Led by the charismatic, sultry and youthful radio personalities Rafael Bello, Giara Nova and Berardo Mendez, the show reflects the versatility of US Hispanic Millennials, who naturally ping-pong from English to Spanish in their conversations.
Bello, the show’s lead sports anchor, is no stranger to radio, having started his career in his native Dominican Republic, and truly encompasses the best of both worlds having embedded Caribbean roots seasoned with American traditions. Bello’s jovial yet forthcoming presence has earned him 2 Emmy awards during his tenure as TV anchor at Telemundo’s NY station, after 5 nominations encompassing Sports and Entertainment for 3 consecutive years.
Not just a pretty face, co-anchor Nova went from the stylish model runways to broadcast journalism. Inquisitive by nature, Nova enjoys learning and sharing new knowledge. Aimed at keeping the audience informed and enlightened, Nova packs a “mean punch” in regards to staying concise with topics and stories…all with a welcoming smile and laugh!
“BDO” Mendez, aptly self-proclaimed the “President of all the fans”, is the voice of the voiceless- not afraid to show his loyalty on everything from sports teams to food. Mendez’ humorous and playful approach is just the icing on the cake to a long-running trajectory for the music producer whose beginnings started as a Latin-urban music artist.
The welcoming, casual, fun and informative environment projected in El Locker Room covers topics ranging from human interest, culture and entertainment, to current events and sports – seasoned by special interviews with showbiz personalities and athletes – the bilingual programming keeps sports and entertainment fans well-informed and engaged all throughout the weekend.
