Beta Research Corporation released their 2016 Brand Identity of Basic Cable/Broadcast Networks study, and ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNEWS earned high marks in several brand attributes among the 65 networks evaluated. In the study, ESPN was ranked no. 1 basic cable network among all male viewers as a network they like to watch online, on tablet or smartphone. It was also ranked first among Men 25-54, 18-34 (tied) and 18-49 (tied) as one of their favorite channels. Furthermore, ESPN or ESPN2 was rated higher than any other sports network in every category, including entertaining, informative, high quality, distinctive and valuable. Other highlights:
- Among all men, ESPN2 was tied with ESPN for first for being a network they like to watch on a tablet, smartphone or computer. ESPN2 also tied for first among all men who said they would pay more attention to the network’s commercials.
- ESPNEWS ranked in the top three among all male viewers as a network they like to watch online, on tablet or smartphone.
The online survey was conducted in January 2016 among a national sample of more than 4,400 cable subscribers. Rankings for ESPN and ESPN2 are based on basic cable networks. Rankings for ESPNEWS are based on basic cable and digital basic networks.
