STAMFORD, Conn. – May 1, 2014 – NBC Sports Group’s exclusive coverage of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs begins tonight with one of the most storied rivalries in NHL history, as the (1) Boston Bruins host the (3) Montreal Canadiens at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Coverage begins with NHL Live at 6:30 p.m. ET, hosted by Liam McHugh, alongside analysts and former NHL players Mike Milbury and Keith Jones.

The Bruins and Canadiens are meeting in the postseason for a record 34th time, 11 more than the 23 meetings between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs. The Canadiens have won 24 of the 33 series, but the Bruins have won seven of the past 11, including the past two meetings in 2009 and 2011. Montreal swept Tampa Bay in the first round, while Boston defeated Detroit in five games to advance. Kenny Albert (play-by-play) and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will call the action from TD Garden in Boston, Mass. Tonight will be McGuire’s 16th game in 16 days, and he is schedule to work at least three more games through Sunday.

The second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs follows a first round highlighted by 25 one-goal games, 14 games that went to overtime, and the first Game 7 tripleheader in 11 years. Last night, the Rangers defeated the Flyers 2-1 at Madison Square Garden, the Wild stunned the Avalanche with a 5-4 overtime win in Denver, and the Kings notched a 5-1 win in San Jose to complete their improbable comeback from an 0-3 series deficit.

SECOND ROUND MATCHUPS

Coverage of the second-round matchup between the (2) New York Rangers and (1) Pittsburgh Penguins begins Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. The Rangers took Game 7 against the Flyers by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday night to advance, while the Penguins defeated the Blue Jackets in six games. Albert and McGuire will have the call of Game 1 from CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. tomorrow night.

Game 1 between the (4) Minnesota Wild and (1) Chicago Blackhawks follows Rangers-Penguins on Friday night at 9:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Nino Niederreiter scored 5:02 into overtime last night to give the Wild a 5-4 series-clinching win in Game 7 over the Avalanche, while the Blackhawks erased a 0-2 series deficit with four straight victories over the Blues to advance. Dave Strader (play-by-play) and Brian Engblom (analyst) will call Game 1 between the Wild and Blackhawks from United Center in Chicago, Ill. on Friday night.

NBCSN will present Game 1 between the (3) Los Angeles Kings and (1) Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET. The Ducks defeated the Stars in six games to advance, while the Kings staged an improbable first-round comeback, erasing a 0-3 deficit to the Sharks with four straight victories, capped by a 5-1 win in San Jose last night. The Kings became just the fourth team in Stanley Cup Playoff history to win after falling behind 0-3 in a series, setting the stage for the first playoff meeting with their I-5 rivals. John Forslund (play-by-play) and Joe Micheletti (analyst) will call Game 1 from Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
