College Football Live Month-Long Roundtable Discussions on Top 20 Teams
Throughout the month of May, College Football Live, aired weekdays at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN, will include a roundtable of analysts taking an in-depth look at the top 20 pre-season teams. Every show from Monday, May 2 through Friday, May 27 will feature a panel discussion looking at one team from the College Football Live preseason top 20 each day, counting down from 20 to 1.
Kirk Herbstreit, Craig James, Urban Meyer, Jesse Palmer and Robert Smith will be the featured roundtable experts. In addition to College Football Live – offering daily in-depth analysis, news, features, interviews and discussion – SportsCenter will air shortened versions of all 20 roundtable segments.
College Football Live will also showcase special week-long themed topics during the offseason. Upcoming themes include the top 10 games of 2010 (weeks of May 2 and May 9), a look back at one of the 10 best games of the 2010 season each day; and Who’s next? (weeks of May 16 and May 23), previewing one of the next top players who are expected to break out in 2011 in each program.
Notable quotes from the roundtable segments:
On Texas quarterback situation
Urban Meyer: “(Coach) Mack Brown said they’re going to go into training camp letting all four guys get reps. How do you do that when not one is a proven winner yet?”
Urban Meyer: “There is, right now, at Texas a quarterback controversy.”
On Notre Dame
Kirk Herbstreit: “I just wonder can Notre Dame ever again be at the level athletically that their fans want them to be?”
On Michigan State
Craig James: “(Quarterback) Kirk Cousins is one of the best, most underrated quarterbacks, underappreciated quarterbacks in the country.”
Robert Smith: “I think those pieces missing could be a challenge especially when you consider last year and so many of the close wins.”
On Florida
Jesse Palmer: “There is a sense of entitlement with some players in that locker room.”
Urban Meyer: “Quarterbacks get too much blame and too much glitter when they do well and they’re a product of what’s around them.”
Jesse Palmer: “I want to see (quarterback) John Brantley play well when the pocket’s collapsing, when he’s got hit in the mouth a couple times early in the game, maybe on the road in a SEC stadium. I want to see the toughness.”
Robert Smith: “There’s so much talent on that team, it’s certainly going to make that job (quarterback) a lot easier.”
On Virginia Tech
Kirk Herbstreit: “I think to get that attention, you got to be able to get into the national championship race and they’ve taken themselves out of that the last five or six years in the first week or two of the season.”
