Shiffrin Has 81 Career FIS World Cup Victories, One Shy of Tying Vonn’s All-Time U.S. and Women’s Record of 82
STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 6, 2023 – Two-time Olympic gold medalist and the winningest slalom skier in World Cup history Mikaela Shiffrin is one FIS World Cup win away from tying Lindsey Vonn’s women’s record for career alpine skiing World Cup victories across all disciplines (82). On Wednesday, Shiffrin won the World Cup slalom in Zagreb, Croatia, on the Crveni Spust course to earn her 81st career World Cup victory and fifth consecutive World Cup win this season.

Live coverage of Shiffrin’s chase for 82 is presented this weekend on the Infront Sports & Media’s subscription website SkiandSnowboard.Live, and begins tomorrow from Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, where Shiffrin is expected to compete in two giant slalom competitions. Saturday’s first run is at 3:30 a.m. ET followed by the second run at 6:30 a.m. ET. Shiffrin closes out the week with Sunday’s giant slalom competition with the first run at 3:30 a.m. ET and the second at 6:30 a.m. ET.
NBC Sports will present Shiffrin’s World Cup races next week, where she could potentially tie or pass Vonn and continue her pursuit of the all-time record of 86 career World Cup victories held by Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark. Passing Vonn would make Shiffrin the winningest female alpine skier in World Cup history and the winningest skier in U.S. history regardless of gender.
Passing Stenmark’s record, which has stood since 1989, would make Shiffrin the winningest alpine skier of all time, and statistically, one of the most dominant athletes in individual sports history.

Shiffrin is scheduled to race in the first run of the slalom from Flachau, Austria, on Tuesday at Noon E.T., with the second run at 2:45 p.m. ET. The tour moves to St. Anton, Austria, on Saturday at 5 a.m. ET with the downhill and the Super-G on Sunday at 5:30 a.m. ET. Shiffrin has not yet stated if she will compete in the St. Anton events.
Steve Schlanger will handle play-by-play while former Stifel U.S. Alpine Team member Steve Porino will serve as analyst for the Flachau races on Tuesday.
