The Premier Lacrosse League and ESPN Announce Multi-Year Media Rights Agreement

The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) powered by Ticketmaster and ESPN have reached a multi-year media rights agreement that will span the network’s broadcast, cable and streaming platform. The League’s fourth season is scheduled to begin on June 4, 2022, playing 47 games across 13 US cities, including All-Star, Playoffs, and Championship Weekend on September 17, 2022.

STAMFORD, Conn. – Sept. 16, 2021 – The 2021 Premier Lacrosse League champion will be crowned this Sunday when two-time defending champion Whipsnakes LC and attackman Matt Rambo face 2021 Jim Brown MVP award nominee Blaze Riorden and Chaos LC in a 2020 Championship rematch from Audi Field in Washington, D.C., at noon ET on NBC and Peacock. A Championship postgame show featuring the trophy presentation and exclusive player and coach interviews will stream exclusively on Peacock immediately following the matchup.

In last season’s Championship, Whipsnakes LC won their second straight title when they defeated Chaos 12-6 behind six goals by Zed Williams, who won Tournament MVP, at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah.

Two weeks ago, Zed Williams tallied five goals to lead the Whipsnakes offensively in their 14-10 victory over the top-seeded Waterdogs in the semifinals. In the other semifinal, Chaos defeated Atlas 15-9 behind 17 saves by Riorden and six points from midfielder Dhane Smith.

Earlier this week, PLL co-founder and all-time professional lacrosse points leader Paul Rabil announced his retirement and future initiatives associated with the sport of lacrosse. A pair of 2021 Jim Brown MVP award nominees face off in the first semifinal when attackman Jeff Teat and Atlas LC face goalie Blaze Riorden and Chaos LC Sunday at 11 a.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock. Teat, the first overall pick in the 2021 College Draft, tied for second in the league in points scored during the regular season (32).

A 30-minute program will be presented between the two semifinal matchups immediately following the conclusion of Atlas LC-Chaos LC, leading into the second semifinal when the two-time defending champion Whipsnakes LC and attackman Matt Rambo play 2021 Jim Brown MVP award nominee Zach Currier and Waterdogs LC at 1:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock. Zed Williams tallied nine points and Rambo scored the deciding goal in the Whipsnakes 14-13 comeback victory over the Redwoods in the quarterfinals.

The two semifinal winners will face off in the 2021 PLL Championship on Sunday, Sept. 19, from Audi Park in Washington D.C. airing at noon ET on NBC and Peacock.

Coverage begins with a Friday evening doubleheader when Redwoods LC face Whipsnakes LC at 6 p.m. ET exclusively on Peacock. The nightcap features the PLL’s co-points leader attackman Grant Ament and Archers LC against 2020 Oren Lyons Goalie of the Year and UAlbany alum Blaze Riorden and Chaos LC at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock.

A battle for the final playoff berth will feature midfielder and PLL co-founder Paul Rabil of Cannons LC facing faceoff specialist Connor Farrell of Chrome LC in primetime Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock. The winner of the matchup will secure a spot in the 2021 playoffs, which begin next weekend on Friday, Aug. 20.

Saturday’s doubleheader gets underway with the league-leading Atlas LC facing Waterdogs LC at 4:15 p.m. ET on Peacock. STAMFORD, Conn. – July 17, 2021 – The best lacrosse players in the world face off in the 2021 Premier Lacrosse League All-Star Game from PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif. tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock. The PLL Skills Competition will be presented following the game at 9:30 p.m. ET exclusively on Peacock.

Current PLL points leader Grant Ament of Archers LC will lead the Adversaries team against the Defenders, captained by 2020 Oren Lyons Goalie of the Year Blaze Riorden of Chaos LC. The best players in the world, including Redwoods attackman Rob Pannell, Archers midfielder Tom Schreiber, Redwoods midfielder Myles Jones and Archers attackman Will Manny will take the field alongside Ament and Riorden. During halftime of the All-Star Game, the Fastest Shot competition will be held, which will feature each player taking two shots from 10 yards. Four additional Skills Competition events will be contested following the game at 9:30 p.m. ET exclusively on Peacock. Following is the order of the events:

  • Fastest Player: Players run from the end line to the top of the opposite 2-point arc, with the first 3 athletes to cross the line moving on to Round 2.
  • Freestyle Challenge: Players have 30 seconds each to score 1 goal in the most creative and skillful way possible.
  • Goalie Competition: The goalie who makes the most saves wins the competition.
  • Accuracy Challenge: Players have 30 seconds to hit as many targets as they can from a distance of 10 yards.

Coverage begins tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET when Waterdogs LC face Cannons LC exclusively on Peacock. Last weekend, Cannons midfielder and PLL co-founder Paul Rabil became the all-time professional lacrosse points leader when he registered six points, bringing his career total to 647. Rabil is currently third in the league in points this season (19).

Saturday’s doubleheader gets underway with the defending champion and league-leading Whipsnakes facing Redwoods LC at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock. This will mark a rematch of the inaugural PLL Championship in 2019, which the Whipsnakes won 12-11 in overtime. The second matchup of the evening features Atlas LC against Chaos LC at 8:45 p.m. ET on Peacock, with both teams currently on two-game winning streaks.

On Sunday, Chrome LC take on Waterdogs LC in the second game of the weekend for the Waterdogs at 4:45 p.m. ET on Peacock. The nightcap features Archers LC against Cannons LC at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Peacock is Streaming Home of PLL This Season – Presenting Every Game

STAMFORD, Conn. – July 1, 2021 – NBC Sports presents a Fourth of July holiday weekend celebration of the 2021 Premier Lacrosse League Friday-Sunday on NBC, NBCSN and Peacock. James Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y., will play host to five matchups, beginning tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET when the league-leading Archers LC aim to remain undefeated against Chrome LC exclusively on Peacock. Archers LC own the largest goal differential in the PLL (25) and are led offensively by attackman Grant Ament, who is second in the league in points (15) and first in assists (10).

Saturday’s doubleheader begins when Redwoods LC face Waterdogs LC at noon ET on NBC and Peacock. Redwoods attackman Rob Pannell leads the league in points (16). The second matchup of the afternoon is Cannons LC against Chaos LC at 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock, which features Cannons midfielder and PLL co-founder Paul Rabil aiming to re-claim the all-time professional lacrosse points record. He currently trails John Grant Jr. by only two points.

On July 4, the Archers face defending champion Whipsnakes LC at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock. Reigning MVP and Whipsnakes attackman Zed Williams leads the PLL in one-point goals with 11. Chrome LC take on Atlas LC in the second game of the holiday doubleheader at 3:15 p.m. ET on Peacock.

Brendan Burke (play-by-play) and Class of 2019 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee Ryan Boyle (analyst) will call the holiday weekend matchups with sideline reporter Paul Burmeister.

Over the course of the 2021 season, NBC Sports will present 44 PLL matchups, marking an NBC Sports record for the most-ever professional lacrosse game coverage in a season. 21 games — four on NBC and 17 on NBCSN — sets a record for the most-ever professional lacrosse games on television in a season. 2021 marks the first season that Peacock is the streaming home of the Premier Lacrosse League, featuring live, streaming coverage of every game throughout the season, including 23 events that will stream exclusively on Peacock.

2021 marks the third season of the PLL and follows a momentous offseason that saw the league merge with Major League Lacrosse (MLL), add an expansion team in the Cannons LC, and bring in new stars from the MLL and college.

The 2021 PLL season spans 11 weeks across the country, featuring seven regular-season weekends, an all-star weekend and three playoff weekends. The playoffs begin on Friday, Aug. 20, and culminate with the Championship on Sunday, Sept. 19.
