June 18, 2020 By admin

Third Installment of Six-Part Initiative Details the Life and Career of Late Redskins Star Tragically Killed in 2007 at the Age of 24

NBC Sports Washington Production Features Interviews with Joe Gibbs, Clinton Portis, and Jonathan Vilma; Introduction from Mike Tirico

Original Storytelling Franchise, Which Launched May 28, Explores New and Forgotten Aspects of Well-Known Sports Topics

Upcoming ‘Sports Uncovered’ Releases to Focus on Barret Robbins, the Philadelphia Flyers and Bill Belichick

STAMFORD, Conn. – June 18, 2020 – NBC Sports Regional Networks’ six-episode podcast anthology series, “Sports Uncovered,” which re-examines some of the most memorable and compelling storylines and events in sports history, continues today with the debut of Sean Taylor: The NFL Superstar We Didn’t Get to Know. The episode is available for download here.

Produced by NBC Sports Washington, the third installment of “Sports Uncovered” focuses on the late Washington Redskins and Miami Hurricanes star defensive back whose tragic murder in 2007 at the age of 24 cut short a remarkable life, and what many consider a potentially hall-of-fame playing career. The in-depth storytelling explores who Taylor was as a person and player; reveals the characteristics that made him a feared and respected opponent, fan favorite and beloved teammate; details his journey from high school to four seasons of NFL stardom; and covers the shock and sorrow surrounding his untimely death.

Taylor’s unique story is told by numerous notable guests who knew him personally and witnessed first-hand his development and growth on and off the field, including former teammates, coaches and media members. The list of contributors includes: Taylor’s former Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs, a Pro Football Hall of Famer; his former Redskins teammates Santana Moss, Chris Cooley and Clinton Portis; his former Hurricanes teammate Jonathan Vilma; Redskins legend Brian Mitchell; his former Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams; and Taylor’s former agent Drew Rosenhaus. NBC Sports Washington’s Julie Donaldson serves as host.

Following are highlighted quotes from Sean Taylor: The NFL Superstar We Didn’t Get to Know:

    • Portis on campaigning for the Redskins to select Taylor in the NFL Draft: “Every day I would call up to the facility, get them to transfer me into the room, and just say ‘Sean Taylor’ and hang up before they could reply – before they argue or anything else.”
    • Williams on his relationship with Taylor: “There are legendary stories of walls vibrating, chairs being thrown and he and I almost coming to blows and fights … we had those sessions about respect, and respect is not given, it’s earned, and I had to earn respect just like he had to earn my respect, and then once we began respecting each other, we trusted each other.”
    • Taylor in a 2005 interview: “You’ve seen a couple players in the last couple of weeks be subjects to shootings, and it’s just a life-changing thing … It just changes lives.”
    • NBC Sports Washington analyst and former Redskin Trevor Matich: “He died saving the lives of the two loves of his life.”

An original storytelling audio franchise, “Sports Uncovered” utilizes exclusive, in-depth interviews with prominent participants, witnesses and experts to explore new, underreported or forgotten aspects of well-known topics, personalities and events centered in each of the NBC Sports Regional Networks markets, but that have had national impact and relevance.

Upcoming “Sports Uncovered” episodes include: an in-depth look at New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, the story behind former Oakland Raider Barret Robbins’ Super Bowl disappearance, and the Philadelphia Flyers’ marathon five-overtime thriller. The debut episode of the series, which launched May 28, detailed Michael Jordan’s NBA return, and the second installment covered how the University of Oregon ignited a uniform craze that revolutionized college football.

NBC Sports’ Mike Tirico introduces each episode of “Sports Uncovered.” The list of notable guests featured throughout the series includes: basketball greats Dominique Wilkins, Chris Mullin and Steve Kerr; Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie and finalist Joe Harrington; Pro Football Hall of Famer Tim Brown and former Flyers Brian Boucher and Keith Jones.

1978 NBA CHAMPIONSHIP-WINNING GAME WITH COMMENTARY FROM PHIL CHENIER AND KEVIN GREVEY OPENS WIZARDS SERIES ON THURSDAY, APRIL 30

WASHINGTON, D.C., and BETHESDA, MD – April 27, 2020 – NBC Sports Washington, in partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment, will present five-part special series for both the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards, entitled Greatest Hits, featuring many of the teams’ most historic and memorable performances, beginning this week. The one-hour weekly editions per team will be highlighted by full-length commentary from participants who played key roles in the respective game, including high-profile former players, and will be hosted by members of NBC Sports Washington’s Capitals and Wizards announcing teams.

Beginning tonight, Capitals Greatest Hits will debut Mondays at 7 p.m. through May 25. The premiere episode will feature the team’s Game 7 overtime victory against the New York Rangers in the first round of the 2009 NHL playoffs on April 28, 2009. Matt Bradley, a current Capitals scout who played six seasons as a forward with the team from 2005-06 to 2010-11, will join hosts Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin to provide his unique perspective as an impact player in that postseason. Bradley scored two goals in Game 6 to force the series-clinching Game 7, which earned the team its first playoff series win since 1998. In addition, following tonight’s debut, NBC Sports Washington will present #HockeyAtHome: The Great One and the Great Eight, the first-ever joint interview with Wayne Gretzky and Alex Ovechkin.

The Wizards editions of Greatest Hits will debut Thursdays, beginning April 30, at 7 p.m., through May 28. This week’s premiere episode features the then-Bullets Game 7 win in the 1978 NBA Finals against the Seattle SuperSonics, which captured the franchise’s first NBA Championship on June 7, 1978. Host Chris Miller will be joined by a pair of the team’s key contributors from the team’s successful 1970s era: Phil Chenier and Kevin Grevey. The duo will share their unique and special memories of that momentous night, their teammates and opponents while watching events unfold again nearly 42 years later.

Information on additional editions of the Capitals and Wizards Greatest Hits will be announced on an ongoing basis and are expected to include Capitals contributors such as former goaltender Olie Kolzig, former forward Troy Brouwer and former head coach Bruce Boudreau; and Wizards guests such as current guard John Wall, former center Marcin Gortat and current head coach Scott Brooks. Each program will encore on NBC Sports Washington multiple times, and complementary Greatest Hits content will be available across its digital platforms, including NBCSportsWashington.com and the MyTeams app.

November 5, 2019 By admin

FREE-TO-PLAY ‘PREDICT THE GAME’ CONTESTS TOTALING $2,000 IN PRIZES PER GAME – WITH $500 AT STAKE EACH QUARTER – HIGHLIGHT NBC SPORTS WASHINGTON PLUS COVERAGE

SPECIAL HOSTS TO JOIN PRESENTATION AT KEY MOMENTS TO ENGAGE PARTICIPANTS AND DELIVER CONTEST UPDATES AND RESULTS

20-GAME SCHEDULE BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY, NOV. 6, AT 7 P.M. WHEN THE WIZARDS TIP OFF AGAINST THE PACERS IN INDIANA

BETHESDA, Md. – Nov. 5, 2019 – NBC Sports Washington will present weekly Washington Wizards predictive-gaming experiences, highlighted by free-to-play Predict the Game contests totaling $2,000 in prizes each game, throughout the 2019-20 NBA regular season on NBC Sports Washington Plus. The 20-game schedule begins Thursday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m., when the Wizards travel to Indiana to face the Pacers.

The NBC Sports Washington Plus presentation will, for the first time, feature special hosts, who will appear at various times to address Predict the Game participants and provide contest updates, information and results. The enhanced experience will contain the majority of the same video and audio (including announcers) as the primary live-game coverage, which will be available simultaneously on NBC Sports Washington.

Predict the Game is a free contest that allows fans to predict various game and player performance outcomes during live Wizards games. Points will be awarded for making selections, with additional points awarded for correct predictions. The top eligible scorer at the end of each quarter will earn or share the $500 prize, with a new contest beginning each quarter, totaling four contests and $2,000 in prizes per game.

The Predict the Game questions, and up to five answer options, will be delivered on a graphic overlay surrounding the live-game coverage, as well as on users’ mobile or desktop devices. Real-time team and player statistics and sports-betting odds data – such as the spread, over-under and moving moneyline – will also be featured alongside the Predict the Game elements as part of the NBC Sports Washington Plus presentation.

Fans can enter Predict the Game, which is open to join throughout the entire game, by creating an account or logging in at www.nbcsportswashington.com/predict, where they can submit predictions via their mobile or desktop device. The platform includes several features that allow users to track their performance, highlighted by real-time points totals, confirmation of results for each question, and on-demand access to a live leaderboard.

“Our predictive-gaming experiments have proven effective in engaging fans and enhancing the already quality experience of live sports coverage, so we are excited to announce a 20-game schedule covering the Wizards with more gaming features integrated,” said NBC Sports Washington SVP and GM Damon Phillips. “It’s our priority to advance this product in meaningful ways, and to provide more opportunities for fans to participate.”

NBC Sports Washington developed and produced similar predictive-gaming presentations on an experimental basis covering eight Washington Wizards games during the 2018-19 NBA regular season, and four Washington Redskins games during the 2019 NFL preseason. This is the first time NBC Sports Washington is providing predictive-gaming presentations throughout a full season.

“We are proud of our partner NBC Sports Washington for raising their game when it comes to providing fans with even more ways to enjoy our teams’ live game broadcasts,” said Monumental Sports & Entertainment SVP of Strategic Initiatives Zachary Leonsis. “NBC Sports Washington’s expanded Predict the Game schedule reflects our joint leadership and investment in the emerging category of gamification, while also providing fans with a unique experience that leverages advanced statistics to enhance their knowledge and insights.”
