SNF Expected to be Sunday Night’s Most-Watched Program
SNF Off to Best Start for NFL Primetime Package in 19 Years
STAMFORD, Conn. – November 2, 2015 – The Denver Broncos’ 19-point victory over the Green Bay Packers on NBC’s Sunday Night Football last night averaged 23.0 million viewers, according to Fast National data provided by The Nielsen Company.
Final numbers will be available Tuesday morning, but SNF is expected to be primetime’s most-watched and highest-rated (13.0/21) program for the night, while also posting the best rating in the Adult 18-49 demo (8.2).
The Broncos’ 29-10 victory, highlighted by Peyton Manning passing for 340 yards and tying the record for most wins by a starting QB in NFL history (186), is the most-watched and highest-rated of six NBC SNF games played on the same night as the World Series. It is the fifth time in six matchups that Sunday Night Football has topped the viewership and household rating of the World Series, with the lone outlier being a 62-7 Saints win over the 0-6 Colts in 2011.
Viewership and household rating for the Packers-Broncos telecast (8:31-11:18 p.m. ET) were up 22% and 19%, respectively, from last year’s Week 8 matchup (18.8 million viewers, 10.9/17 rating for Packers-Saints), which was previously the most-watched, highest-rated SNF game opposing the World Series. Last night’s 8.2 Adult 18-49 rating for SNF topped last year’s by 15%.
In addition, last night’s game was the most-watched Week 8 NFL primetime game in 22 years (Vikings-Bears, 23.3 million in 1993 on ABC).
For the season…
- Through eight weeks of the NFL season (nine telecasts), NBC’s Sunday Night Football is averaging 23.6 million viewers – the best viewership for the NFL’s broadcast primetime package at this point in the season in 19 years (23.9 million in 1996). SNF is averaging a 13.8/23 household rating – the best start for the broadcast primetime package in 18 years (14.6/25 in 1997).
- Sunday Night Football has averaged 20+ million viewers for 8 of its first 9 telecasts – the most in the 10-season history of the SNF on NBC and up from five such telecasts at this point last year.
- Sunday Night Football is averaging an 8.7 rating in the Adult 18-49 demographic, up 6% from this point last season. SNF viewership is up 8% from last year at this time (21.8 million viewers), while HH rating has also increased 8% (12.8/21).
TOP METERED MARKETS FOR PACKERS-BRONCOS:
DIGITAL: NBC Sports Live Extra’s presentation of Packers-Broncos totaled 18.1 million live streaming minutes, up 140% from last year’s Week 8 game (7.5 million). The game also ranks as Live Extra’s third best non-Olympic authenticated event ever, behind only SNF games in Week 2 (Seahawks-Packers, 20.8 million) and Week 1 (Giants-Cowboys, 19.6 million) this season.
Through nine games, the 2015 NFL season has delivered 170 million live minutes and 2.2 million unique users on NBC Sports Live Extra, up 72% and 15%, respectively, from 2014.
