Bengals Hosts First Regular Season Sunday Night Football Game in Cincinnati

NEW YORK – October 17, 2012 – Two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-3) travel to Cincinnati to take on Andy Dalton and the Bengals (3-3) in a crucial AFC North matchup on Sunday Night Football. Coverage begins with Football Night in America at 7 p.m. ET on NBC.
Calling Steelers-Bengals is six-time Emmy Award-winner Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his 27th season as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 13-time Emmy Award-winner and former Bengals wide receiver Cris Collinsworth, who has won the Emmy for Outstanding Event Analyst in each of his three seasons in the Sunday Night Football booth; and sideline reporter Michele Tafoya, who, last year in her first season with SNF, won the inaugural Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Reporter.
Football Night in America is hosted by 23-time Emmy Award-winner Bob Costas, who will report from Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. Costas will be joined on site by Michaels, Collinsworth and Hines Ward, the former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, Super Bowl MVP and newest addition to NBC Sports’ NFL team.
Dan Patrick co-hosts Football Night from NBC’s Studio 8G at 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Sunday night. Patrick is joined by Super Bowl-winning head coach Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison, Peter King of Sports Illustrated, and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports Network and NBCSports.com. Alex Flanagan will report from Gillette Stadium in New England on the Patriots-Jets game.

Emmy-nominated NFL Turning Point, NBC Sports Network’s weekly NFL show co-produced by NFL Films, airs tonight at 10 p.m. ET. In this week’s episode: NFL Turning Point examines Sunday’s Seahawks-Patriots game, and how rookie QB Russell Wilson was able to out duel Tom Brady and the Patriots; Joe Flacco and the Ravens victory over the Cowboys, including Dallas’ questionable management of the game clock; and a spotlight look at the first six weeks of Robert Griffin III’s rookie season. In addition, Football Night In America’s Rodney Harrison and Tony Dungy will breakdown the keys to this Sunday’s Bengals-Steelers game.
Hosted by Football Night In America’s Dan Patrick, the hour-long program will air throughout the entire NFL season, including the playoffs and Super Bowl.

Pro Football Talk features concentrated NFL insight from Florio and other experts from around the league. Florio and Kuselias will regularly welcome a roster of NBC Sports football commentators, including Rodney Harrison, Hines Ward, Doug Flutie, Ross Tucker, Amani Toomer, and Peter King, among others. In addition to deep diving on the most topical NFL stories of the day, Pro Football Talk will also touch on injuries, fantasy football and officiating.
SNF OFF TO HIGHEST-RATED START IN
SEVEN-YEAR HISTORY
SNF is the No. 1 primetime program of the 2012-2013 television season. NBC’s seven-game household rating of 13.4/21 is the best start in the seven-year history of Sunday Night Football, and the highest-rated start to a season for an NFL primetime package in 13 years (13.5/21 household rating for ABC in 1996).
The six-week viewership for seven games (22.1 million) is down slightly from 2011 (22.2 million) and is the second most-watched start to a season for a primetime package in 16 years (24.5 million in 1996 on ABC).
PACKERS-TEXANS DOMINATE: Last Sunday’s game on NBC, in which the Packers blew out the Texans, 42-24, drew 19.9 million viewers, up 13% from last year’s Week 6 SNF game (16.6 million for Vikings-Bears). It is the most-watched Week 6 game in SNF history, and the most-watched Week 6 primetime game in 12 years (22.0 million for Bucs-Vikings, 10/9/00 on ABC).
· The household rating of 11.8/18 for Sunday’s Packers-Texans game is up 17% from last year’s Week 6 SNF game (10.1/16 for Vikings-Bears) and is the highest-rated Week 6 primetime game in 12 years.
· Sunday’s game went head-to-head with Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Fox. It is the most-watched and highest-rated NFL primetime game vs. MLB LCS playoffs in 16 years (26.5 million for 49ers-Packers on 10/14/96).
· Every Week 6 Sunday Night Football game in its seven-year history faced MLB LCS playoffs.

NBC will broadcast 19 primetime NFL games during the 2012 season, highlighted by: the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants hosting their division rivals the Dallas Cowboys on NFL Kickoff 2012; storied rivalries such as Steelers-Ravens, Eagles-Cowboys, and Giants-Eagles; two games featuring Peyton Manning with his new team the Denver Broncos – hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers on the first SNF game of the season, and the New Orleans Saints in Week 8; and NBC’s first Thanksgiving night game, featuring New England Patriots at the New York Jets.
