STAMFORD, Conn. – Sept. 21, 2021 – Three-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers visit Jimmy Garoppolo and the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers on this week’s edition of NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET with Football Night in America, followed by kickoff at 8:20 p.m. ET from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on NBC, Peacock and Universo.
The quarterback matchup features Rodgers, who ranks third among active starting quarterbacks with 127 victories, and Garoppolo, who has a .765 winning percentage (26-8), which ranks fourth among active quarterbacks.
The Packers (1-1) defeated the Lions, 35-17, last night as Rodgers passed for 255 yards with four touchdowns and running back Aaron Jones recorded 115 total yards and four touchdowns (three receiving, one rushing). Since 2019, Rodgers is 7-0 with 20 passing touchdowns and no interceptions following a loss, which the Packers suffered in Week 1.
San Francisco (2-0) looks to remain unbeaten following a 17-11 victory over the Eagles on Sunday. Garoppolo passed for 189 yards and accounted for two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing).
Green Bay and San Francisco met in Week 9 last season, as the Packers won 34-17 behind Rodgers’ 305 passing yards and four touchdowns. Green Bay holds a 37-32-1 advantage in the all-time series, while San Francisco has won six of the past nine matchups. The Packers-49ers rivalry is one of the richest in the NFC, having met eight times in the playoffs, including the 2019 NFC Championship Game, won by the 49ers, 37-20. At least one of the two teams has played in the NFC Championship Game in eight of the past 11 years.
Sunday’s matchup will mark the season home opener for the 49ers. Both teams will make additional appearances this season on SNF (Green Bay: vs. Chicago, Dec. 12; vs. Minnesota, Jan. 2) (San Francisco: vs. Indianapolis, Oct. 24). Calling Packers-49ers is Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his record 36th season as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 16-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth; and four-time Emmy Award-winning sideline reporter Michele Tafoya. Three-time Super Bowl referee Terry McAulay is the Sunday Night Football rules analyst.
NBC’s coverage of Sunday Night Football is led by executive producer Fred Gaudelli and director Drew Esocoff. SNF has won a record 11 Sports Emmys for Outstanding Live Sports Series.

** Thanksgiving Night Game
Flexible scheduling will be used in Weeks 11-18. Additionally, in Weeks 5-10, flexible scheduling may be used in no more than two weeks. In Weeks 5-17, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time.
For Week 18, two Saturday games and the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to January 9. The schedule does not list Saturday games or a Sunday night game in Week 18, but games with playoff implications will be moved to those time slots. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives “surprise” teams a chance to play their way into primetime.
