“Sunday Night 7” Free-to-Play Game Features $1 Million Jackpot
STAMFORD, Conn. – Dec. 8, 2021 – Three-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and the NFC North-leading Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears in a divisional rivalry showdown on this week’s edition of NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET with Football Night in America, followed by kickoff at 8:20 p.m. ET from Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis., on NBC, Peacock and Universo.
Continuing one of the most storied rivalries in NFL history, Sunday’s game marks the 204th all-time meeting between the Packers and Bears, with Green Bay holding a 102-95-6 advantage over Chicago (including the postseason). The teams last met in Week 6 when the Packers won at Soldier Field, 24-14, behind Rodgers’ two touchdown passes.
The Packers (9-3), coming off their Week 13 bye, are 5-0 at home this season and hold a four-game lead in the NFC North, and can clinch the division title with a win and a Vikings loss to the Steelers on Thursday. Rodgers ranks fourth in the NFL with a 105.5 passer rating this season, throwing for 2,878 yards with 23 touchdowns and four interceptions. Wide receiver Davante Adams is third in the league with 1,083 receiving yards.
The Bears (4-8) look to rebound after falling to the Cardinals, 33-22, last weekend. Chicago running back David Montgomery totaled 141 yards from scrimmage (90 rushing, 51 receiving) and rushed for a score in Week 13. Rookie quarterback Justin Fields, who missed the past two games with a rib injury, may return this weekend.
Calling Bears-Packers is Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his record 36th season as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 16-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth; and sideline reporter Kathryn Tappen. Flexible scheduling will be used in Weeks 11-18. Additionally, in Weeks 5-10, flexible scheduling may be used in no more than two weeks. In Weeks 5-17, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time.
For Week 18, two Saturday games and the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to January 9. The schedule does not list Saturday games or a Sunday night game in Week 18, but games with playoff implications will be moved to those time slots. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives “surprise” teams a chance to play their way into primetime.
