Fifteen Winners Honored with the 2010 Sports Business Awards
New York, N.Y. – ESPN was honored with the 2010 Best in Sports Media Award by the SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily. The award was presented live at a special ceremony held Thursday, May 20th at the New York Marriott Marquis at Times Square.
ESPN was recognized as part of the Sports Business Awards program, presented by Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily, the two leading publications on the business of sports. The Sports Business Awards recognize excellence and outstanding achievement in the sports industry for 2009.
ESPN was chosen from six nominees for Best in Sports Media, including, in alphabetical order, CBS Sports, DirecTV Sports, Major League Baseball, National Football League and Turner Sports. It was a repeat win for ESPN.
From the NBA finals to the NFL draft, from innovations in 3D to its strong Monday Night Football ratings, ESPN celebrated its 30th anniversary with the acclaimed “30 for 30” documentary series and continued to be a top destination for sports television. The launch of its local online initiatives, the breadth of its offerings and an emphasis on video and mobile applications kept ESPN at the forefront of the digital world. The combination of its television and digital success resulted in another memorable year for ESPN.
Awards were presented in 15 categories. “We are pleased to recognize the achievement of the leaders in the sports industry with our third annual Sports Business Awards,” says Richard Weiss, publisher of the SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily. “The winners and nominees being honored tonight represent the individuals, companies, agencies and media at the forefront of the sports industry.”
