2010 GREATNESS IN BASEBALL YEARLY AWARD WINNERS TO BE UNVEILED ON MLB NETWORK AND MLB.COM FRIDAY, DECEMBER 17
Comprehensive Voting Selected Top Players, Pitchers, Plays & Moments from the 2010 MLB Season
December 15, 2010, New York & Secaucus – The annual Greatness in Baseball Yearly (GIBBY) Awards, the ultimate “This Year in Baseball” honor for the best players and must-see moments from the 2010 Major League Baseball season, will be announced exclusively on MLB Network and MLB.com by MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds and Greg Amsinger on Friday, December 17 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT).
Winners in the 19 categories of this year’s GIBBY Awards, including the Best Player, Rookie, Starting Pitcher, Closer, Defensive Player, and Manager with no restriction to League affiliation, were determined through a comprehensive eight-week voting process that included national media members, Major League Club front office personnel, former Major League players and online fan balloting. Additional categories include the year’s Top Play, Moment, Performance, Oddity, X-Factor, Game, Fan Moment and Postseason Moment, each delivered through MLB.com’s “Must C” highlight vault.
Up for consideration in the “Player of the Year” category include Jose Bautista, Robinson Cano, Carl Crawford, Josh Hamilton, Carlos Gonzalez and Joey Votto, while the nominees for “Manager of the Year” include the San Francisco Giants’ Bruce Bochy, the Texas Rangers’ Ron Washington, the Minnesota Twins’ Ron Gardenhire and the Atlanta Braves’ Bobby Cox. The “Performance of the Year” category includes Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez completing the cycle with a walk-off home run on July 31 against the Chicago Cubs and perfect games by Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay and Oakland Athletics pitcher Dallas Braden.
