MIAMI- August 1, 2012- Telemundo Media’s coverage of the first three days of the 2012 London Olympics widely surpassed the 2008 Beijing Olympics audience delivery for the same period, registering 69% growth in total viewers and 58% among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. Produced exclusively for the Hispanic audience, the Telemundo Olympic broadcast, led by award-winning sportscaster Andres Cantor, delivered a total cumulative viewership of 9.4 million viewers for the first three days, 12% more than the first three days of the Beijing Olympics.
Telemundo’s Houston and San Francisco stations reported an overall growth of 172% and 556% among adults 18-49, respectively, compared to the first three days of the Beijing Olympics. In total, the New York, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles stations showed an impressive overall growth of 52% (115,677 vs. 76,015) in persons 2+ and a 63% increase (75,442 vs. 46,265) in adults 18-49 versus the first three days of the Beijing Olympics. Miami and Las Vegas also recorded impressive growth in total household viewing compared to Beijing (187% and 113%, respectively).
Telemundo Media’s digital properties posted strong results registering 269K visitors from July 25 to July 30.This generated 383K total visits with 627K streams (822% more than Beijing) and 3.6M page views. The top five most-visited sport event sections on the site to-date have been beach volleyball, soccer, diving, gymnastics and volleyball.
Telemundo’s coverage of the 2012 London Olympics has brought the stories of Hispanics participating in the Olympics, and the main events both on the field and around the Games to the homes of millions of U.S. Hispanic viewers. The coverage features marquee disciplines such as boxing, swimming, basketball and soccer. Deportes Telemundo Olympic broadcast team, headed by internationally acclaimed sportscaster Andrés Cantor, includes Jessi Losada, Mónica Noguera, Sammy Sadovnik, Edgar Lopez, René Giraldo, Karim Mendiburu, Kaziro Aoyama, Oscar Guzmán, Leti Coo and Verónica Contreras, as well as several former Olympic champions.
