ESPN’s coverage of Syracuse defeating Connecticut 127-117 in a marathon six-overtime thriller on Thursday, March 12 averaged 2,598,000 total viewers, making it the network’s most-viewed regular or post-season BIG EAST game this year and second most-viewed since 1990 (the first year of the company’s historical viewership records). ESPN’s coverage of Georgetown-Connecticut March 9, 1996 is the network’s most-viewed BIG EAST game among total viewers since 1990.
The BIG EAST men’s quarterfinal telecast, which averaged a 2.1 rating and 2,072,000 households, peaked at a 2.9 rating between 1 to 1:15 a.m. ET.
Overall, ESPN’s men’s Championship Week coverage is averaging 1,305,000 total viewers, 1,071,000 households and a 1.1 rating for increases of 45% (vs. 898,000), 40% (vs. 767,000) and 38% (vs. 0.8), respectively, over last year through the same point.
Syracuse-UConn Encore March 15; Overtime Marathon March 17
ESPN Classic will showcase the Syracuse-Connecticut telecast as its Game of the Week Sunday, March 15 from 8 a.m. to noon and from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
In addition, ESPN Classic will showcase four spectacular multi-overtime marathon games Tuesday, March 17, beginning at 8 a.m., concluding with the Syracuse-Connecticut telecast. The schedule:
