NEW YORK – February 11, 2009 – NBC Sports presents a weekend of high energy, extreme competition beginning with the Chevy Snowboard Grand Prix and rounding out with Jeep World of Adventure Sports.
CHEVY SNOWBOARD GRAND PRIX, SATURDAY, 3 P.M. ET
NBC Sports presents the Chevy Snowboard Grand Prix from the Boreal Mountain Resort in Truckee, Calif., Saturday 3-4:30 p.m. ET. 2002 Olympic gold medalist Kelly Clark (W. Dover, Vt.) and Louie Vito (Sandy, Utah) are among the snowboarders who will compete in the 22-foot Olympic sized halfpipe. 2006 Olympic silver medallist Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, Vt.) and five-time X Games gold medalist Nate Holland (Squaw Valley, Calif.) headline the first trials and finals of the Visa Snowboardcross Championship Series.
Commentators Pat Parnell, Todd Richards, and Tiffany Simons cover the action.
PBR, SATURDAY, 4:30 P.M. ET
The Built Ford Tough Series heads to the Ford Center in Oklahoma City Saturday, 4:30-6 p.m. ET for its ninth stop of the 2009 tour. The Express Classic will consist of four rounds of competition with the first three rounds featuring the top 40 bull riders in the world as they challenge the toughest bulls.
Participants include 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) and current No. 1 bull rider in the world J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.). Other noteworthy riders include Mike White (De Kalb, Texas), Travis Briscoe (Edgewood, N.M.), and 2002 PBR World Champion Ednei Caminhas (P. Alves, SP, Brazil).
Kenny Rice, Justin McKee, Ty Murray, and Donna Brothers provide commentary for this event.
WORLD SKIING CHAMPIONSHIP, SUNDAY, 3 P.M. ET
NBC Sports presents a two-hour highlight show from the 2009 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships from Val d’lsere, France, where U.S. star Lindsay Vonn took home two gold medals. The two-week long competition consisted of eleven events, with more than 500 participants from over 60 different nations. This is the fourth time ever that France has hosted the event.
Veteran broadcaster Tim Ryan hosts NBC Sports coverage from the Universal Sports studio in Los Angeles. Ryan is joined by former Canadian Ski Team member Todd Brooker and former U.S. Ski Team member Christin Cooper. Steve Porino, former U.S. Ski Team member, will provide on-site reports from Val d’Isère.
JEEP WORLD OF ADVENTURE, SUNDAY, 5 P.M. ET
NBC Sports presents the Emmy award winning Jeep World of Adventure Sports this Sunday with host Pat Parnell. In what is considered to be the biggest winter event to come to New York’s East River Park, the Red Bull Snowscrapers will compete along the New York City skyline for a chance to win $100,000. Sixteen professional snowboarders, including veterans Shaun White, Pat Moore, and Travis Rice will compete for a chance to win $100,000.
The urban course, designed by Snow Park Technology, consists of a nine-story tall ramp. The overall winner is determined based on the athlete that can consistently complete difficult and imaginative tricks with demonstrating both skill and style throughout the whole challenge.
