SIRIUS XM RADIO TO AIR LIVE COVERAGE OF BELMONT STAKES JUNE 6
Listeners nationwide will hear Calvin Borel’s attempt to be first jockey to win Triple Crown on two different horses
Special edition of “Down The Stretch Race of the Week” to provide horse racing fans with pre- and post-race news and analysis
NEW YORK – June 5, 2009 – SIRIUS XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced today that it will provide live coverage of the running of the 2009 Belmont Stakes and jockey Calvin Borel’s historic attempt at winning the individual Triple Crown on two different horses, Mine That Bird and Rachel Alexandra.
SIRIUS and XM listeners around the country will hear the live race call of the 135th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 6, as part of a special edition of SIRIUS XM’s exclusive horse racing program, Down The Stretch Race of the Week, airing 5-7 pm ET on SIRIUS XM Sports Nation, SIRIUS channel 122 and XM channel 143.
Acclaimed track announcer Dave Johnson will host the special along with veteran journalist Bill Finley and reporter Caton Bredar live from Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. Listeners around the country will get pre-race odds and analysis, interviews with jockeys, trainers and owners plus the live race call by Belmont track announcer Tom Durkin (post time: approximately 6:30 pm ET).
Calvin Borel won the Kentucky Derby on Mine That Bird, a 50-1 long shot, on May 2, 2009. He then raced with filly Rachel Alexandra and won the Preakness Stakes two weeks later. Borel, who will be back on Mine That Bird for the Belmont Stakes, is attempting to be the first jockey in history to sweep the Triple Crown on two different horses.
Johnson and Finley will also host their weekly show, Down The Stretch, in its regular time slot Saturday, June 6 from 10 am-1 pm ET.
