In anticipation of Sunday’s showdown when the Falcons visit Minnesota, NFL Classic Games features the game that sent Atlanta to their first Super Bowl in franchise history Friday, December 19 at 9:00 PM ET/ 6:00 PM PT in high definition.
With just a couple minutes left in regulation, Minnesota kicker, Gary Anderson, had his first miss in 45 field-goal attempts, leaving the door open for the Falcons. Falcons quarterback Chris Chandler took advantage driving Atlanta 71 yards culminating with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Terance Mathis to tie it at 27.
In overtime, Falcons kicker Morten Andersen kicked a 38-yard field goal to give Atlanta a stunning 30-27 victory over one of the highest scoring offenses in NFL history.
