Tiger to Join NBC in the Booth
Saturday Feature on Tiger’s Amazing Win at U.S. Open Despite Injury
NEW YORK – December 18, 2008 – NBC Sports presents live coverage of the Tiger Woods hosted Chevron World Challenge, from Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., Saturday and Sunday from 3-6 p.m. ET. Leading the 16-player field are Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk, Fred Couples, Boo Weekley, Hunter Mahan, Camilo Villegas and Anthony Kim. The field includes eight players from the 2008 Ryder Cup.
Woods, the defending champion is injured and unable to defend the title he has won four times. The tournament awards $5.75 million in prize money and benefits The Tiger Woods Foundation.
Host Dan Hicks, alongside analyst Roger Maltbie, will anchor the coverage from the 18th hole tower. They are joined by tower reporter Gary Koch; course reporters Mark Rolfing and Dottie Pepper; and interviewer/essayist Jimmy Roberts. NBC’s golf coverage is produced by Tommy Roy, one of the most nominated persons in the history of the Sports Emmys.
“The postseason is packed with plenty of golf but the fact that this one has Tiger’s name attached to it takes it to an entirely different level,” said Hicks.
SPECIAL FEATURE DISCUSSING TIGER’S INJURIES DURING U.S. OPEN: On Saturday’s broadcast, NBC Sports will present a feature on Tiger Woods’ amazing victory at the U.S. Open and how he was able to maintain his championship form in the wake of his knee and leg injury which later required multiple surgeries. Hicks narrates the feature that includes interviews with Tiger’s caddie Steve Williams, his swing coach Hank Haney and his agent Mark Steinberg. Tiger will watch the feature in the booth with Hicks and Maltbie and will comment on it after seeing it for the first time.
