NBC Sports Digital’s Playmaker Media Selected by Formula 1 to Power New F1 TV
Playmaker Media, NBC Sports Digital’s technology service providing end-to-end support for companies in need of best-in-class live streaming and VOD solutions, has been selected by Formula 1 to power its new F1 TV, F1’s over the top (OTT) subscription video platform, produced in conjunction with world leaders in the field of streaming video and subscription services.

In developing the platform, NBC Sports’ Playmaker Media, and iStreamPlanet will act as systems integrator and video streaming partner. They provide high-quality, turn-key, end-to-end video streaming solutions for media companies offering their customers the best experience in live video and on-demand content across all platforms.
Playmaker Media launched in May 2016, and has since streamed tens of thousands of events, including Super Bowl LII and the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, and more than 20,000 events in 2017, which air across NBC, NBCSN, Golf Channel, Telemundo, NBCUniverso and six NBC Sports Regional Networks. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) signed on as Playmaker Media’s first client, with Playmaker providing live streaming video support for the IOC’s Olympic Channel. Club Deportivo Guadalajara, better known to their legion of fans as Chivas, NASCAR, NBC News, regional sports network SNY, and Spanish-language broadcast network Telemundo are also clients.
Opening Night of the 2018 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Is Most-Streamed on Record
Across NBC Sports Group’s streaming platforms, the three games on Opening Night of the 2018 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs (Philadelphia-Pittsburgh; Minnesota-Winnipeg; Los Angeles-Vegas) delivered 164,000 unique visitors and 10.4 million live minutes, up 34% and 22%, respectively, from last year’s Opening Night (four games), making it the most-streamed NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Opening Night on record. In addition, live streaming of the 2017-18 NHL regular season averaged 1.3 million minutes per game, up 14% and a new record.
NBC Sports Digital Second Among Sports Site In Average Minute Audience in March
Continuing NHL and Premier League coverage contributed to the Yahoo Sports – NBC Sports Network delivering an Average Minute Audience (AMA) of 60,300 in March, ranking No. 2 across sports sites, according to multiplatform data released by comScore. NBC Sports Digital also ranked second in total views with 1.3 million, and total minutes spent on its sites, with 2.7 million.
NBC Sports Launches the NASCAR America Debrief Podcast
NBC Sports’ newest podcast, the NASCAR America debrief podcast, brings viewers behind the scenes of NBCSN’s Daily motorsports show NASCAR America. Taped each Wednesday, following Wednesdays with Dale Jr, the episodes dive deeper into the latest NASCAR news, and feature Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s candid thoughts and opinions.
The NASCAR America Debrief podcast is available on NASCAR Talk, Apple Podcasts, AudioBoom, Google Play, Spotify, Stitcher and podcasting apps.
NBC Sports Boston Launches Unique Twitter Handle, @NBCSCamera Guys
NBC Sports Boston launched a new, unique Twitter account this month “The Camera Guys” (@NBCSCameraGuys) featuring behind-the-scenes access and video content like never before. The account, hosted by two of the network’s day-to-day camera guys who are constantly in the field, has gained more than 1,000 followers since its launch, with more than 350,000 video views. “The Camera Guys” have also engaged some of the market’s top media members and professional athletes, including Jon Lester, David Ross, Devin McCourty and Greg Monroe, and will continue to bring viewers that behind-the-scenes look that only these “camera guys” can give.
