NBC SPORTS BROADCASTS LIVE COVERAGE OF U.S. WOMEN’S OPEN
NBC’s Pepper on the Open: “This is the best event in women’s golf; there’s nothing even close.”
NEW YORK – July 8, 2009 – NBC Sports will broadcast live coverage of the most prestigious event in women’s golf, the U.S. Women’s Open from Saucon Valley Country Club’s Old Course in Bethlehem, Pa., Saturday and Sunday, 3-6 p.m. ET.
Dan Hicks will host NBC’s coverage alongside Johnny Miller and Dottie Pepper, who competed in 19 U.S. Opens in her illustrious career. They are joined by tower reporter Gary Koch, and course reporters Roger Maltbie and former LPGA players Jane Crafter and Kay Cockerill.
“This is the best event in women’s golf; there’s nothing even close,” said Pepper. “An Open will challenge you in every way – the length, slope, speed of greens. You’ll hit shots that you’ve never hit before. You need to be mentally rested coming into it. You have to be patient, know you’re not going to be perfect.”
Inbee Park looks to defend her title, challenged by past champions Christie Kerr (2007), Birdie Kim (2005); Laura Davies (1987); Julie Inkster (1999, 2002); Meg Mallon (1991, 2004); Se Ri Pak (1998) and Karrie Webb (2000, 2001). Other top competitors include Lorena Ochoa, Kristy McPherson, Morgan Pressel and Paula Creamer.
Saucon Valley is hosting its sixth USGA Championship including U.S. Senior Opens in 1992 and 2000. The Old Course regularly ranks among the top 100 courses in Golf Magazine.
