Games to include New York Yankees at Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox at Los Angeles Angels
All Games Will Pause for National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. ET
May 22, 2009 – MLB Network will air two live national game broadcasts on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26. The first game will air at 2:00 p.m. ET with New York Yankees at the Texas Rangers. The second game will air at 9:00 p.m. ET with the Chicago White Sox at the Los Angeles Angels. MLB Tonight, the signature program of MLB Network during the regular season, will air on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., followed by Quick Pitch, MLB Network’s daily highlight show, at 12:00 a.m. ET.
Games will be blacked out in each team’s home television territory. Viewers in areas subject to blackouts will be provided with alternate programming.
Starting on Monday, Major League Baseball will begin its second year of national fundraising and awareness initiatives for Welcome Back Veterans, a program which addresses the mental health and job needs of returning American Veterans. For games on Memorial Day, all Major League Baseball Clubs will wear special “Stars & Stripes” caps. The caps will have the American flag etched into the team’s logo and for the first time, will be red in color (the Toronto Blue Jays hat will incorporate a Maple Leaf design instead of the “Stars & Stripes”).
Also on Memorial Day, Major League Baseball once again will participate in the National Moment of Remembrance, with all games in progress pausing at 3:00 p.m. ET to encourage all citizens to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served in the armed forces.
