Network to Air Live Thursday Afternoon Games For Remainder of the Regular Season
Afternoon Game on August 6 to Feature the Colorado Rockies at the
Philadelphia Phillies at 1:00 p.m. ET
Secaucus, N.J., August 5, 2009 – MLB Network today announced its live game schedule from August 6 through August 29, 2009, featuring 14 MLB clubs in 12 live regular season games. The schedule also includes four Thursday afternoon games as part of a new package of day games that will air throughout the remainder of the 2009 regular season.
This week’s Thursday afternoon game features the Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies on August 6 at 1:00 p.m. ET. As the game is not being broadcasted in the Rockies’ home market, Rockies’ fans will be able to watch the game live on MLB Network, which will carry a simulcast of the Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia feed. The following week will showcase American League postseason contenders Detroit Tigers at Boston Red Sox on August 13 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The afternoon games will precede all regularly scheduled Thursday Night Baseball match-ups.
“Baseball is unique in that it has several weekday afternoon games and we see this as a great way for MLB Network to distinguish itself,” said Tony Petitti, President and CEO of MLB Network. “We wanted to provide fans with as many live games as possible and we’re looking forward to airing match-ups from some of the top contenders in the American and National Leagues.”
This week’s edition of Thursday Night Baseball features an A.L. East showdown with the Boston Red Sox at the New York Yankees and MLB Network’s Matt Vasgersian and Jim Kaat calling the game on August 6 at 7:00 p.m. ET. Saturday Night Baseball will showcase the Chicago Cubs at Colorado Rockies at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Additional live games will be announced coinciding with MLB Network’s selection windows. The Thursday afternoon and Saturday Night Baseball games will be simulcasts of local broadcasts, including local announcers. Games will be blacked out in each team’s home television territory. Viewers in areas subject to blackouts will be provided with alternate programming.
