Johnson: The Problem in Dallas is Bigger Than Coaching

FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 11/11/12

Johnson: The Problem in Dallas is Bigger Than Coaching

Bradshaw: The Saints Are Still A Force

Glazer Reports Saints Have Written Permission from the NFL to Negotiate Payton’s Contract

Co-host Terry Bradshaw on how the Saints have turned around their season: “Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has been very soft trying to get his defensive packages in this season but what did we see against the Eagles last week? They blitzed like crazy. That’s exactly how this team was built under Gregg Williams. They showed aggressiveness. New Orleans has four games in 19 days. If they can get to 6-5 at the end of it, the Saints are a force to be dealt with.”

Analyst Jimmy Johnson on the real issue has plagued the Cowboys for years: “This is bigger than coaching. Underachievers – that’s what we’ve called them for years. The Cowboys have one playoff win in 16 years regardless of who was coaching. The players answer to Jerry Jones, not the head coach. The players are put up on a pedestal before they ever win a game. As a head coach, it’s a chore to keep these players focused, keep their feet on the ground and keep them hunger because there’s no fear.”

Analyst Jimmy Johnson on tonight’s Houston/Chicago matchup: “Houston is more of a complete team than Chicago. The Bears are only winning with their defense. If they don’t beat themselves against Chicago, Houston has a shot. Texans’ defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is as good as it gets at rushing the passer. If Houston protects the football and doesn’t give up silly touchdowns to defense and special teams, they’ll get to Cutler.”

NFL Insider Jay Glazer reports on the moves the Saints have made since general manager Mickey Loomis’ return to the team this week: “Mickey Loomis was reinstated and one of the first things he did was make sure he was allowed to negotiate with Sean Payton. I’m being told that the NFL has given written permission to Mickey Loomis and the Saints to get a contract done with Sean Payton.”

Analyst Jimmy Johnson on what Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan did wrong this week:“Shanahan made a huge mistake. He told the media what he was thinking. As a coach you are talking to your players and to the fans. You tell your players what message they want to send, you tell the fans what they want to hear. You don’t ever say what you’re thinking as a coach.”

FOX NFL SUNDAY breaks down today’s pivotal Eagles/Cowboys matchup by category to see who is in a better position going forward:

Bradshaw gives the Cowboys the edge in the QB department: “Romo gives his team a better chance to win than Vick does.”

Johnson picks Andy Reid over Jason Garrett when comparing head coaches: “Reid has the experience of five NFC Championship Games and has been to the Super Bowl.”

Long gives Cowboys the defensive check: “In Philadelphia, it’s been a drama. Who’s going to be there next year, what defense are they going to run? Cowboys are set now and for the future.”

Strahan picks Dallas as the team that is most complete in overall talent: “Eagles feel like a team that’s aging including their coaching staff.”

—————————————————————————————————

Analyst Michael Strahan on whether the Lions’ recent winning streak is enough to make a playoff push: “It may be too late for Detroit. When you have Green Bay and Chicago in your division, it’s too late and too tough.”
