New York – With the speculation over and the University of Florida and Oklahoma University, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 2 teams, set for an epic national title clash, FOX Sports announces the broadcast teams assigned to its exclusive presentation of the 2009 FEDEX ORANGE BOWL, AT&T COTTON CLASSIC, ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL, TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL and FEDEX BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. The announcement was made today by Ed Goren, President and Executive Producer of FOX Sports.
FOX Sports kicks off its 2009 BCS campaign in prime time on New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1 (8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT) with the FEDEX ORANGE BOWL where the Big East Champion Cincinnati Bearcats battle the ACC Champion Virginia Tech Hokies. BCS on FOX lead play-by-play announcer Thom Brennaman, lead analyst Charles Davis and reporter Chris Myers call the action. In addition to the FEDEX ORANGE BOWL, Myers serves as lead game reporter for each BCS on FOX game broadcast. Coordinating Producer Mike Burks and director Rich Russo lead the production team.
On Friday, Jan. 2, FOX Sports presents a college football doubleheader beginning with the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic (2:00 PM ET/11:00 AM PT). Legendary broadcaster Pat Summerall calls the clash between the 7th-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders and 25th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels, alongside analyst Brian Baldinger. Jeanne Zelasko and Krista Voda serve duel roles as hosts for all pregame and halftime festivities and sideline reporters. Bowl action rolls on later that evening with the 2009 ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL (7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT) featuring the 4th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide against the 6th-ranked and undefeated University of Utah Utes live from the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. Play-by-play announcer Kenny Albert teams with former Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl Johnston on the call, while Charissa Thompson and Myers report from the sidelines. Barry Landis produces and Mike Frank directs.
FOX Sports’ 2009 BCS campaign continues on Monday, Jan. 5 (7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT) when the 3rd-ranked Texas Longhorns meet the 10th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in the TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL. Matt Vasgersian handles play-by-play and is joined in the booth by former USC standout defensive lineman Tim Ryan live from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Laura Okmin and Myers report from the sidelines. Jeff Gowen produces and Bill Webb directs.
Last, but certainly not least, it is back to Miami on Thursday, Jan. 8 (7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT) to crown this season’s BCS National Champion when the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners face the No. 2 Florida Gators in the FEDEX BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. Brennaman, Davis and Myers return to the Orange Bowl for college football’s premier event.
Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer, the only head coaches in history to guide teams to national collegiate and Super Bowl championships join former Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George (Ohio State) and host Chris Rose for pregame, halftime and postgame coverage live from the Fox Network Center in Los Angeles. As the head coach of the University of Miami Hurricanes, Johnson compiled a 52-9 record, two Orange Bowl titles, two No. 2 finishes, and a National Championship in 1987. Under Switzer’s leadership, the Oklahoma Sooners won national championships in 1974, 1975 and 1985 and eight of the thirteen bowl games they participated in. Both men led the Dallas Cowboys to Super Bowl championships last decade (Johnson 1992 & ’93; Switzer ’95). In 1995, George won the Heisman Trophy and left Ohio State second in school history in career rushing yards (3,768) and third in rushing touchdowns (44).
