FIRST-EVER ALLI WINTER DEW TOUR KICKS OFF IN BRECKENRIDGE ON NBC & USA THIS WEEKEND
Three-Stop Tour Features Olympic Gold Medalists Shaun White and Hannah Teter
NEW YORK – December 18, 2008 – Olympic gold medallists Shaun White and Hannah Teter headline a list of the world’s best snowboarders and freeskiers as NBC Sports presents live coverage of the first-ever Alli Winter Dew Tour from Breckenridge, Colo. The three-stop tour features over 100 of the best winter action sports athletes competing for their sport’s only regular season crown – the Winter Dew Cup – and a $1.5 million prize purse. NBC Sports’ live coverage of Freesking Slopestyle airs Saturday, 1:30 – 3 p.m. ET, and Snowboard Superpipe featuring White and Teter airs 1-3 p.m. ET on Sunday. USA Network will air late-night coverage of Snowboard Slopestyle Friday and Freesking Superpipe Saturday, 1-2 a.m. ET/PT both nights.
NBC’s Pat Parnell (play-by-play), Todd Richards (snowboard analyst). Luke Van Valin (freeskiing analyst), Tina Dixon and Tiffany Simon (reporters) call the action from Breckenridge.
NBC SATURDAY: FREESKI SLOPESTYLE, 1:30 PM ET
Style and technicality are two reigning characteristics of this year’s freeskier bill: Slopestyle competitor Tom Wallisch is known for his impressive ability on the triple-kinked rails and Peter Olenick reigns on technical abilities with his signature Whisky Flip in the Superpipe. The competition in Breckenridge also features the best women freeskiing in both Superpipe and Slopestyle demonstrations. Sarah Burke, who pioneered female 720s, 900s, and 1080s in Superpipe, will face tough competition from pros Jen Hudak and Krisi Leskinen.
NBC SUNDAY: SNOWBOARD SUPERPIPE, 1 PM ET:
Olympic Gold Medalists White and Teter headline the competition in the Snowboard Superpipe competition. White, the USA’s 2006 Olympic gold medallist in Snowboard Superpipe is the Dew Tour’s first cross-over threat as he won the 2007 Dew Cup in a skateboarder in the Vert event. White faces tough competition from fellow Americans Mason Aguirre, Danny Davis and Kevin Pearce, who are all slotted to contend with White in both Pipe and Slopestyle.
World champ and defending Olympic gold medalist Teter leads a strong women’s snowboard field that also includes Australia’s Torah Bright, who secured first-place finishes at most of this year’s top Snowboard Superpipe contests.
