Most-Viewed BIG EAST Tournament
ESPN posted its most-viewed audiences for its Championship Week Presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods since 1990 (the first year of the company’s historical viewership records) among households and viewers (people 2+) this year with 1,521,500 and 1,595,386, respectively, based on a 1.3 rating, the highest since 1991 (the network also averaged a 1.3 rating in 1998 and 1996).
ESPN also experienced significant year-to-year audience increases across ESPN and ESPN2 and on ESPN.com and ESPN Mobile Products. Details:
· ESPN’s telecasts marked significant increases in households, total viewers and ratings over last year: 27% (vs. 983,298), 31% (vs. 1,215,371) and 30% (vs. 1.0), respectively.
· ESPN2 also posted audience increases for its Championship Week telecasts, averaging 358,712 households, 450,359 viewers and a 0.4 rating for increases of 12% in households and viewers (vs. 319,584 and 400,702, respectively) and 33% (vs. 0.3).
· From March 9-15, ESPN.com’s college basketball section grew to nearly 154 million page views and over 19 million visits, up 18% and 2%, respectively, year-over-year from 2008, according to Omniture. Additionally, there were 4.4 million views of college basketball video in the same time period, with SportsCenter Highlight of the Night Syracuse vs. Connecticut six-overtime BIG EAST quarterfinal coming in as the most-viewed video.
· College hoops fans also demanded their Championship Week content on the go, as traffic to both college basketball and Championship Week sections on ESPN Mobile Web grew to tremendous levels. Both sections combined generated 64.6 million page views and nearly 6.8 million visits.
· ESPN scored its most-viewed BIG EAST Conference Tournament since at least 1990 among households and viewers, averaging 1,372,933 and 1,760,027, respectively, based on a 1.4 rating. In addition, ESPN’s telecast of the conference Championship – featuring Louisville defeating Syracuse – was the network’s most-viewed BIG EAST game in households and viewers, regular- or post-season, since at least 1990. The game averaged 2,759,550 households and 3,873,951 viewers based on a 2.8 rating.
