One-Hour Special on Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) Program Created by MLB Productions
ESPN2 on Friday, September 18th at 8:00 p.m. ET will premiere The Faces of RBI 2009, presented by KPMG, a one-hour television special that showcases the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program as it gives kids in inner cities the chance to participate in baseball and softball and also helps them with important life skills. The Faces of RBI 2009, presented by KPMG, is hosted and narrated by RBI alumnus and Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder Justin Upton, and was produced by MLB Productions.
This compelling special will provide an intimate look at the many faces that make up the RBI program. Highlighted by the 2009 RBI World Series, the show will explore the experiences of kids who participate in RBI, the coaches who mentor them, the Major League Baseball executives who champion the program and the KPMG volunteers who provide support to make it all happen.
This show will follow several individuals, including three of this year’s twelve RBI for RBI presented by KPMG scholarship winners: Jessica Silva of Houston RBI and Kenji Corbisiero and Adrian Williams, both of Los Angeles.
The Faces of RBI 2009 will also feature an inside look at stories that include a player struggling with diabetes, a former high school dropout and players coming from economically deprived areas. It will also provide insights from the program’s founder, former scout and Major Leaguer John Young, and its supporters, including KPMG Chairman and CEO Tim Flynn.
