TOP HONORS INCLUDE LIVE CAPITALS COVERAGE AND GEICO SPORTSNET CENTRAL; BENINATI, MATICH AND JENKINS ADD TO EMMY COLLECTIONS
BETHESDA, Md. – June 27, 2016 – The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) recognized CSN Mid-Atlantic with five 2015 Emmy Awards at the 58th Annual Emmy Awards Gala on Saturday, June 25, in Baltimore. CSN, which earned seven nominations this year, has won 77 Emmy Awards on 130 nominations since 2001.
CSN’s five Emmy Awards were earned for live sporting event (Washington Capitals) and daily or weekly sports program (Geico SportsNet Central), and in individual categories for sports play-by-play (Joe Beninati), sports analyst (Trevor Matich) and sports anchor (Michael Jenkins).
CSN’s live coverage of the Washington Capitals won its sixth Emmy since 2001. The network has now claimed 11 awards in this category in the last 15 years, including seven in the last eight years. Last year, it was CSN’s live coverage of the Washington Wizards that earned the top prize.
The late weekday edition of Geico SportsNet Central, CSN’s daily news program, was the winner of the daily/weekly sports program category. In addition to his award for his role on the show, host Michael Jenkins was honored in the sports anchor category. He previously won the sports anchor award in 2012 and 2013, as well as sports reporter in 2008 and 2004 and program host/moderator in 2011.
In addition to his award as part of CSN’s live Capitals coverage, Joe Beninati won his 10th Emmy for sports play-by-play. Beninati, who has now claimed the top honor in this category in six of the last seven years, was previously honored in 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014.
CSN Redskins analyst Trevor Matich also earned an Emmy Award for sports analyst for his work on Redskins Kickoff and Redskins Postgame Live, his seventh individual honor since 2007. He was previously honored in this category in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014. Matich has also earned three Emmys as part of Redskins Kickoff.
