Clippers star Blake Griffin discussed teammate Matt Barnes’ twitter outburst, playing for Doc Rivers, and bullying in the NBA during a guest appearance on FOXSports.com’s podcast “The Buzz with Jimmy Traina.” The podcast is Traina’s first since joining FOXSports.com from Sports Illustrated.
Griffin on Matt Barnes’ scuffle with the Thunder’s Serge Ibaka: “Some guys are more physical, and when both guys are physical it just kind of escalates to that point.”
Griffin on Matt Barnes’ Twitter outburst: “Matt’s a great teammate and he’s had our back and we’ve had his back. I’m sure in the next couple days this will be all sorted out. But obviously, emotions were running high [Wednesday night] and things were said so we just have to wait it out.”
Griffin on bullying in the NBA: “That’s something you don’t really see that much in the NBA. The stuff that’s all in good fun has to be monitored or cut out because no one wants that situation. It’s unfortunate.”
Griffin on Doc covering Lakers banners: “I thought it was a cool idea. We’ve said this before, it’s nothing against the Lakers. We’re not trying to disrespect their history. It’s not like we tore the banners down and hid them somewhere. We’re just covering them up when we play our home games. They’re still there and will be there when they play. I didn’t think it was going to be as big of a deal as it was.”
On Clipper-Laker “Rivalry”: “When I first came to the Clippers and we would play an away game at the Lakers, we would run out on the court during starting line ups and nobody would even boo. Nobody even cared. Now when we come out, you’d think we’re the number one enemy of the Lakers.”
