Greatest 4th QTRs – Thursday at 9:00 PM ET

This week’s Greatest 4th QTRs highlights Week 4 matchups between the Packers-Vikings, Bills-Dolphins and Buccaneers-Redskins with a look back at the following games:

November 6, 2000 – Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings: QB Brett Favre led the Packers in an overtime march down the field and lobbed a pass to WR Antonio Freeman. The ball was tipped by Vikings CB Chris Dishman, but just before it touched the ground, a diving Freeman caught the ball, jumped up and ran 43 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

November 25, 2001 – Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins: The Bills began the fourth quarter leading 27-10 but lost that lead as Dolphins QB Jay Fiedler led a three-touchdown, come-from-behind victory over Buffalo.

November 13, 2005 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Washington Redskins: After QB Chris Simms threw a 30-yard touchdown to WR Edell Shepherd in the final minutes, the Buccaneers cut the Redskins lead to 35-34. Instead of kicking the extra point to tie the game, Tampa Bay head coach Jon Gruden made the decision to go for a two-point conversion and with 58 seconds remaining, the Bucs were successful, bringing home the win 36-35.

Greatest 4th QTRs is a two hour compilation of three memorable fourth quarters in NFL history. Using NFL Films footage, Greatest 4th QTRs preps viewers for the upcoming weekend’s games by reliving three of the most exciting finishes between teams set to faceoff on Sunday.

SportsNation Set to Attempt Record for Favre References in One Hour

SportsNation Set to Attempt Record for Favre References in One Hour

For one day, SportsNation will be FavreNation. In anticipation of the Monday Night Football matchup of Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings against the Green Bay Packers (8 p.m. ET, ESPN), SportsNation will get a little more animated than usual when it goes for a “Brett Favre Blowout” during the one-hour show Monday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.

Poking fun at the media fascination with Favre, who has now started a record 274 consecutive games, FavreNation hosts Colin Cowherd and Michelle Beadle will attempt to say “Favre” 275 times during the show.

FavreNation will also feature the weirdest Brett Favre videos on the Web, a special, original Brett Favre song and Beadle starring in reincarnations of some of Favre’s most famous commercials. Beadle will also sport a different Favre T-shirt in each of the five segments.

“I love three things in life: my family, my dog and Brett Favre,” Beadle said. “Not necessarily in that order.”

Along with Cowherd and Beadle, fan participation via tweets, e-mails, Facebook and phone calls, as well as contributions from producers and other studio staff, will multiply the frequency with which the show references the world’s most famous No. 4.

Cowherd will buy Wranglers for the entire crew to wear.

“The producers told me I needed to mention Brett’s name 150 times on Monday,” Cowherd said. “I didn’t realize that made this show different than any other one.”

According to Jamie Horowitz, SportsNation coordinating producer and co-creator along with Kevin Wildes, this special edition speaks to the core of what SportsNation is.

“We have three rules that guide the vision of SportsNation,” Horowitz said. “1 – Talk about things we would talk about even if we didn’t have a TV show; 2 – Don’t take ourselves too seriously; 3 – Absolutely, positively never stop checking Google alerts for Brett Favre news. Monday’s FavreNation is the perfect combination.”

On SportsNation, Cowherd and Beadle interact with fans throughout the telecast, essentially making sports fans the third host of the show. The show airs weekdays at 4 p.m., and re-airs at midnight, on ESPN2. Fans can deliver their input via Twitter (@SportsNation); Facebook (ESPN-SportsNation); ESPN.com’s SportsNation web page; e-mail ([email protected]); and phone calls (1-888-FAN-ESPN) before, during and after the show.

Reggie Jackson To Host Exclusive Weekly Series, “October Nights,” on SIRIUS XM Radio

cid:image001.jpg@01C91E34.AC83EEF0

REGGIE JACKSON TO HOST EXCLUSIVE WEEKLY SERIES, “OCTOBER NIGHTS,” ON SIRIUS XM RADIO

Hall of Fame slugger will host the show Tuesdays through the end of the World Series on SIRIUS XM’s Mad Dog Radio channel

NEW YORK – September 30, 2009 SIRIUS XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced today that Mr. October, Hall of Fame slugger Reggie Jackson, will host a new weekly series exclusively on SIRIUS XM Radio.

Starting Tuesday, October 6, Jackson and co-host Bill Pidto will host October Nights, a six week series of talk shows running through the 2009 MLB postseason.  October Nights will air Tuesdays (7:00 – 9:00 pm ET) on SIRIUS XM’s Mad Dog Radio channel, available nationwide on SIRIUS channel 123 and XM channel 144.

Jackson and Pidto will take calls from listeners around the country and offer an expert look at the playoff picture in the American and National leagues.  Jackson, one of the most clutch playoff performers of all time, will talk about his own experiences in the postseason and will offer listeners a consummate perspective on the Fall Classic and everything leading up to it – the atmosphere, the pressure, and the feeling of winning or losing the title.

“There’s nothing else like October baseball,” said Jackson.  “Everything and everyone jumps up a notch – the competition, the fans, the intensity of every pitch.  I was fortunate to be a part of it many times in my career and I’m looking forward to talking directly to the fans about my experiences.  There’s no better place to do that than on SIRIUS XM, where we’ll have a national audience and the freedom to talk about anything and everything from around the Major Leagues. This is shaping up to be a terrific postseason with plenty of storylines and I’m excited to get started.”

Reggie Jackson is one of the most dynamic postseason performers in baseball history.  He played for 11 division champions, six pennant winners and five World Series champions.  Nicknamed Mr. October for his clutch playoff hitting, he helped win three consecutive World Series titles with the Oakland Athletics in the early 1970s and two World Series with the New York Yankees in 1977 and 1978.  His crowning achievement was his World Series performance against the L.A. Dodgers in 1977 in which Jackson hit a record five home runs – including his legendary three-home run feat in Game 6 – and knocked in eight RBI.  He finished the series with a .450 average and 1.250 slugging percentage and was named the MVP.

Jackson finished his career with 563 home runs and 14 All-Star appearances and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1993.  That same year, Jackson’s #44 was retired by the Yankees.  In 2004, the Oakland Athletics retired the #9 he wore for their franchise.  He is one of only eight Major Leaguers to have their number retired by more than one team.  Jackson is now a special adviser for the Yankees and serves as a consultant and liaison to the team’s players.

ESPN’s Monday Night Football: Cable’s Biggest Audience of 2009 for 3rd Straight Week
ESPN “Wins the Night” in All Key Male and Adult Demos Among All Networks in Prime Time

For the third consecutive week, ESPN’s Monday Night Football delivered the biggest cable television audience of the year.  Monday night’s MNF telecast – the Dallas Cowboys’ 21-7 victory over the Carolina Panthers — earned a 11.5 rating, representing an average of 11,354,000 households (15,705,000 viewers – P2+), the largest audience for any program on cable television in 2009.

The MNF game led all programs (broadcast or cable) in all key male and adult demos and helped ESPN win the night among all networks (broadcast or cable) in all key and adult male demos.  The game also ranks as the fourth largest household audience all-time for cable television (excluding breaking news) and the seventh most-viewed program in cable history in overall viewers (excluding breaking news).  The Panthers-Cowboys game is the fourth most-viewed MNF game on ESPN (since 2006) among both households and viewers.

Through three weeks (four games) of the NFL season, ESPN’s MNF is averaging a 10.4 household rating, 10,267,000 households, and 14,044,000 viewers (P2+), representing increases of 6%, 7% and 5%, respectively. ESPN’s four MNF games are the four biggest audiences in terms of both household impressions and total viewers for cable television in 2009.

ESPN’s MNF game between the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins last week (Sept. 21) held the previous top mark for cable television in 2009 in both households (10,849,000) and viewers (14,710,000).

ESPN.com had more than 102 million page views to NFL content accessed via computers and mobile devices for Monday through Tuesday at noon — up 21% from the comparable time period last year.  Specifically, page views for the NFL section on computers and mobile were up 17% and 14%, respectively, from last year.  Additionally, ESPN.com streamed 3.4 million NFL related videos — up 52% from last year.

NFL Legend Jim Brown Sits Down With SIRIUS XM’s Joe Madison for Three Part Interview Series

LEGENDARY NFL GREAT JIM BROWN SITS DOWN

WITH SIRIUS XM HOST JOE MADISON FOR EXTRAORDINARY INTERVIEW SERIES

Madison Tackles Brown: The Athlete, Activist and Actor

A revealing and powerful look at the life and times of the iconic figure

NEW YORK – September 29, 2009 – SIRIUS XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced that it will broadcast an exclusive series of hard hitting, no-holds barred interviews with Hall of Fame running back, activist and actor Jim Brown conducted by award-winning SIRIUS XM Radio host Joe Madison. The Madison-Brown interview specials will air across multiple SIRIUS XM channels in three hour-long installments, featuring in-depth discussions on sports; race, politics and activism; and Hollywood and celebrity.

Madison’s insightful interviews provide an intimate portrait of the man whose legendary career, influence and impact on American culture is multi-faceted. With unflinching candor, Brown reflects on his extraordinary life experiences, the lessons he’s learned, and how he applies them to his life today.

“Jim Brown is one of the most fascinating figures of our times, and his amazing accomplishments on and off the field broke new ground at every turn and have left an indelible mark on our culture,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SIRIUS XM Radio. “Many people think they know the ‘Jim Brown story’ but until now, the whole story has not been told. With this satellite radio broadcast event, Joe Madison connects SIRIUS XM’s millions of listeners across the country with the complete Jim Brown.”

The first interview, “The Athlete,” will air October 2 at 8:00 am ET on The Power, XM channel 169, and at 11:00 am ET on SIRIUS XM Stars, SIRIUS channel 102 and XM channel 155.  It will replay October 3 at 6:00 pm ET on The Power. “The Athlete” focuses on Brown’s storied years in the NFL as a Hall of Fame running back with the Cleveland Browns. At the height of his career Brown was the highest paid player in the NFL, earning $85,000 a year. He was also the first NFL player to have an agent. Brown reflects on his experience in professional sports and offers advice for the next generation of young star athletes on how to deal with newfound fame, wealth and success. He also offers insight on players’ relationships with their coaches.

The second installment, “The Activist,” focuses on race, politics and activism, and will air October 9 at 8:00 am ET on The Power, XM channel 169, and at 11:00 am ET on SIRIUS XM Stars, SIRIUS channel 102 and XM channel 155.  It will replay October 10 at 6:00 pm ET on The Power. The drive that fueled Brown on the football field carried over to his role as community activist. For many years Brown has worked with black communities across the country, helping to eradicate violence and emphasizing the importance and power of education. As part of this mission, Brown also visits prisons to speak to inmates, and works with gang leaders in cities large and small. Through Amer-I-Can, Brown’s non-profit organization created to offer social support and services to underserved populations and cities, he acts as a mentor and helps millions of young men and women across the country achieve success and self-confidence.

The third and final hour of Madison and Brown’s in-depth conversation, “The Actor,” will air October 16 at 8:00 am ET on The Power, XM channel 169, and at 11:00 am ET on SIRIUS XM Stars, SIRIUS channel 102 and XM channel 155.  It will replay October 17 at 6:00 pm ET on The Power. “The Actor” explores Brown’s transition from star athlete to Hollywood box office champ. Brown reveals what it was like to be black in 1960s and 1970s Hollywood; the role race played in the parts he was offered and the parts he sought; why “The Dirty Dozen” is his favorite of his movies; his on-and off-screen relationship with Raquel Welch; his friendship and partnership with comedian Richard Pryor, and how that disintegrated because of Pryor’s drug addiction; his days managing Earth, Wind & Fire; and more.
