ALL-PRO LINEBACKER DERRICK BROOKS JOINS SIRIUS NFL RADIO
Longtime Buccaneers star will host ‘The Red Zone’ Fridays throughout the season
NEW YORK – November 3, 2009 - SIRIUS XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced today that nine-time All-Pro linebacker Derrick Brooks has joined the cast of SIRIUS NFL Radio, SIRIUS XM’s 24-hour NFL talk channel (SIRIUS channel 124 and XM channel 124 with the “Best of SIRIUS” programming package).
Every Friday throughout the season, the longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers star will host The Red Zone live from 1:00 – 3:00 pm ET with his co-host, former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker. Brooks will take calls from listeners around the country, interview players and coaches, break down the weekend’s upcoming match-ups for his audience and discuss all the latest news from around the league.
“I’ve been on SIRIUS NFL Radio many times as a guest and if you’re a fan of this game there’s not a better place to go to talk football,” said Brooks. “Now I get to sit on the other side of the microphone and be the one asking the questions and taking calls from NFL fans. I feel like it’s the start of training camp again and I can’t wait to get started.”
Brooks played every season of his 14-year career in Tampa Bay, where he was the leader of a vaunted Buccaneers defense that led the team to a 48-21 victory over the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII. In a dominating performance, the Bucs defense intercepted five passes, three of which were returned for touchdowns, including one by Brooks, and recorded five sacks. Brooks was also named by the Associated Press as the NFL Defensive Player of the Year for that 2002 season. During his tenure with the Bucs, Brooks was voted to 11 Pro Bowls and was a 9-time All-Pro, including six First Team selections.
Well known for his charity work, Brooks’ foundation, Brooks Charities, Inc., is dedicated to improving the lives of youth in the Tampa Bay area. He also co-founded the Brooks-DeBartolo Collegiate High School in Tampa, which opened in 2007 and provides a college preparatory education for students in grades 9-12. In 2000, Brooks received the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award for his dedicated service to the Tampa Bay community.
Brooks was drafted by the Buccaneers with the 28th pick of the 1995 NFL Draft after an All-American career at Florida State, where he helped the Seminoles win the 1993 National Championship. Brooks joins a lineup of former NFL players, coaches and executives on SIRIUS NFL Radio that includes Carl Banks, Gil Brandt, Randy Cross, Dean Dalton, Rich Gannon, Pat Kirwan, John Madden, Jim Miller, Tim Ryan, Marty Schottenheimer, Ross Tucker and Solomon Wilcots.
