MCCARVER WARNS PHILLIES NOT TO FALL INTO MANNY TRAP – One of the biggest factors in this year’s NLCS is the play of one man, Manny Ramirez. But as Philadelphia prepares to host Los Angeles in the NLCS this Thursday, MLB on FOX lead analyst Tim McCarver cautions the Phillies not to buy into the notion that so many teams before them have: “Manny Ramirez is an extraordinary hitter,“ said McCarver. “As great of a hitter as he is, Philadelphia can not go into every situation thinking ‘don’t let Manny beat you.’ That’s fine, well and good if it’s the 7th inning with first base open in a tie game, but there are going to be situations where you are going to have to pitch to him. If you are a starting pitcher, you have to think ‘my job is to get him out.’”

OFFENSIVE FIREWORKS SET TO GO OFF IN THE DESERT – It’s Week 6 and the NFL on FOX presents doubleheader coverage of seven exciting matchups—each presented in crystal clear HD on Sunday, Oct. 12.  At 1:00 PM ET the Chicago Bears and quarterback Kyle Orton travel to Atlanta to take on the NFL’s surprise of the season, Matt Ryan and the Falcons in the Georgia Dome.  In Tampa, Jon Gruden and the Buccaneers host the 4-1 Carolina Panthers with new starting quarterback Jeff Garcia.  Following Week 1’s loss to the New York Giants, Jim Zorn’s Redskins have won four straight, including road victories in Dallas and Philadelphia. This week, they welcome the St. Louis Rams to FedEx Field.  In Minneapolis, NFC North rivals meet as the Lions visit the Vikings. Later at 4:15 PM ET, Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles invade San Francisco to take on Frank Gore and the 49ers. Also at 4:15 PM, Tony Romo leads the high-flying Cowboys attack into Arizona to take on Kurt Warner and the Cardinals. Dick Stockton, Troy Aikman and Pam Oliver call all the action live from University of Phoenix Stadium.

Coverage begins at 12:00 PM ET with America’s most-watched pregame show, FOX NFL SUNDAY.  Co-hosts Terry Bradshaw and Curt Menefee join analysts Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson and Michael Strahan analysis and features from around the league. NFL Insider, Jay Glazer presents the latest news and notes on “Glazer’s Edge.” Weather forecaster Jillian Reynolds and comedic prognosticator Frank Caliendo also contribute.  In this week’s show, Strahan visits his old Giants teammates and head coach Tom Coughlin to talk about how the undefeated G-Men look to be even better than last year’s Super Bowl Champions. Also, Coach Johnson tries to figure out how to fix Philadelphia’s struggling offense. In this week’s “Get To Know” segment features Dallas Cowboys defensive end/linebacker DeMarcus Ware.

I am surprised Eric, Kevin and Jeanne were not waving Dodger pennants in last night’s pregame show. They are the ultimate L.A. homers. Very poor non-objective commentary.

Mark Grace spent so much time on the pre-game shows bad mouthing the Phillies fans, saying that they throw things at players. Now I’m not saying the Phillies fans are angels, but, in Los Angeles the Phillies fans have had things thrown at them constantly. The gang bangers from L.A. make up half of the crowd and the security guards have to keep removing Phillies fans out of their seats to keep them from getting killed. They have been throwing knives at the Phillies fans in the stadium, but Mark Grace has said nothing about the fans of the Dodgers. He should put on a Phillies jersey and try sitting in the stands and see how the Dodger fans and gang bangers rate against the Phillies fans. And I don’t mean he should sit in one of the luxury boxes, but actually in the stands where he could learn something. Only when you have nothing intelligent to say about the NLCS do you have to resort to badmouthing fans in a biased fashion such as Mark Grace has done. To quote an ex Philadelphia athlete, “Any knucklehead can talk bad about the fans!!!”

Time for a change, don’t you think? We’ve heard enough from Tim McCaver & Joe Buck after too many years. The announcers doing the ALCS on TBS are much better when it comes to announcing baseball games. Tim & Joe don’t have the touch that separates great announcers from ok announcers. If you remember Ernie Harwell, Vince Skully just to name a few, your two announcers need to learn more how to announce. Just saying “strike one, strike two….inning over” has been heard all too often over the years.

We have often turned off the game or turned down the sound when these guys speak. We’ve also heard many negative comments from many people. If we were you, this should be their last season! Please!
