DW: DAYTONA 500 JINX? DRIVERS WILL TAKE IT – NASCAR on FOX analyst Darrell Waltrip won the Daytona 500 in 1989 and said it was the “crown jewel” of his career and easily would be the biggest win of any driver’s career but what about afterwards?  “Of late, it hasn’t seemed to work well for drivers that won the Daytona 500.  Kevin Harvick won it three years ago and his season went downhill from there.  Two years ago, Ryan Newman pulled off the upset and his year went south afterwards.  Last year, Matt Kenseth won the Daytona 500 and backed that up the next week by winning in California but from that point on, Matt’s season took a nose dive.  You say there is a jinx after winning the Daytona 500?  If there is a jinx, these drivers would accept it gladly,” said Waltrip.
